Halifax, Canada The GJV Group Full time

**POSITION**:Chief Operating Officer (Integrator)

**REPORTS TO**:Chief Executive Officer (Visionary)
- **Application Process**_

**Interested applicants must submit (1) a resumé and (2) a cover letter that includes two stories from your past experience that demonstrate that you have what it takes to thrive in this role.**
- **Summary**_

This is an exciting new position at The GJV Group Ltd. (GJV), one that is essential to helping the company pursue its aggressive growth targets in the years to come. Simply put, the COO will be the glue that holds the company together, by harmoniously integrating all the major functions of the business: operations, sales & marketing, finance & admin, human resources, and technology. This will allow the CEO to focus squarely on acquiring new businesses and properties across the country. To be successful in this role, the words “this isn’t in my job description” can’t be part of your vocabulary.
- **Challenges of the COO Role**_

At GJV, we value open and honest communication. To that end, we want to be up front with you: this will be a challenging—but tremendously rewarding—position and opportunity for the successful applicant. Some of the key challenges of the role will include:

- You may not always get the appreciation you’d like. This role can be thankless at times.
- When all is said and done, you’ll be the one to convey the “bad news.” You will probably have to say No much more often than you say Yes.
- When an employee doesn’t work out or fit in, you’ll be the one to fire them.
- When you take your time to do due diligence before making key decisions, people may think you act too slowly. When you’re required to exercise your judgment on the spot, people may think you act too fast.
- When you’re doing an excellent job, few will praise you. When something goes wrong, many will blame you—whether or not you’re actually to blame.
- **Duties and Responsibilities**_

We are not going to sugar coat this: the COO needs to be “Mr. or Mrs. Everything” in the business. Your job is essentially everything that falls within the realm of “execution” and “delivery” and outside the domain of the CEO. In short, your job is to handle everything the CEO doesn’t like to do or isn’t innately good at.

That said, these are the four main duties and responsibilities of the COO:
1. **Planning and Implementation**: You will effectively collaborate with the CEO to establish long-term, annual, and quarterly plans (including key goals, objectives, metrics) for the business, and you will be ultimately responsible for implementing those plans. It will be your job to translate the big picture vision of the business into the day-to-day activities needed to get there.

2. **Day-to-day management**: You will manage and integrate all aspects of the business, including operations, sales & marketing, finance & admin, human resources, and technology. You will have full authority to make all day-to-day decisions in the business, handling all issues and problems as they arise in the business, while keeping the CEO up to date according to a communication cadence to be established.

3. **Process champion**: You will ensure that the business is process-driven, by regularly reviewing, revising, and creating all processes required to improve the efficiency and profitability of the business, and co-ordinating the training of all team members on the processes. You will also ensure that everyone is consistently following and adhering to the established processes.

4. **Leading our people**: You will be responsible for all aspects of creating a high functioning, happy, and engaged team. You will create a culture where all team members enjoy being held accountable to their roles, goals, and processes - and you will be the chief accountability officer for the business. You will be a leader, mentor, and agent of positive change throughout the business.
- **Key Competencies**_

To be successful in this role you will need to:

- Align with the vision, purpose, and core values of the business
- Have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills - verbal and written
- Provide leadership and ensure that everyone is working in harmony and rowing together in the same direction
- Be able to resolve issues and conflicts effectively in a practical and healthy manner
- Have a customer service orientation
- Be able to multi-task, organize, plan and prioritize work, and to help team members do the same
- Have high standards of ethics, confidentiality, and reliability
- Be able to demonstrate good judgment, show initiative and be proactive
- Be able to gather, monitor, and interpret information to guide decision-making
- Have excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Be flexible to accommodate daily demands
- Be able to travel periodically to all of our locations

**Measures of Success/Performance**

At GJV we are data-driven and accountable. Here are some of the metrics on whic
