**Position Description**:
The Settlement Outreach Worker plays a vital role in supporting newcomers by facilitating access to settlement services, fostering community connections, and organizing outreach activities. This position involves providing transportation assistance, coordinating youth and children’s activities, organizing community engagement events, and leading conversation circles. The Settlement Outreach Worker helps clients develop social and integration skills, overcome barriers to access services, and build meaningful connections within their new communities.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Assess client eligibility for transportation assistance based on individual needs.
- Provide bus tickets, passes, or tokens to eligible clients to enable participation in IRCC-funded settlement services.
- Ensure equitable access to transportation support for clients facing financial or mobility challenges.
- Maintain accurate records of transportation assistance provided.
- Monitor the impact of transportation support on client participation in settlement services.
- Facilitate Children and Youth Activities in English to help eligible clients develop skills for successful integration and school transition.
- Support children and youth in social engagement, leadership development, and school readiness.
- Design and implement interactive, age-appropriate activities that build confidence and independence.
- Work collaboratively with schools, community centers, and youth organizations to provide additional resources.
- Build trust with immigrant communities, religious organizations, and cultural groups.
- Organize and participate in cultural and social events that strengthen community connections.
- Connect newcomers with cultural, religious, and community groups to foster a sense of belonging.
- Conduct outreach initiatives to ensure hard-to-reach populations are aware of available settlement services.
- Develop partnerships with local organizations, schools, and faith-based groups to expand community engagement.
- Organize and facilitate conversation circles for youth, women, men, and vulnerable seniors to practice conversational English.
- Ensure topics are relevant to health, settlement, and daily life to enhance practical communication skills.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages participants to build confidence in English.
- Collaborate with volunteers and community members to expand the reach and effectiveness of conversation circles.
- Assist clients in accessing community services and removing barriers to integration.
- Provide one-on-one and group support to ensure clients feel welcomed and connected.
- Advocate for clients by liaising with service providers and community organizations.
- Ensure programs are delivered through an anti-racism, anti-oppression, and culturally inclusive lens.
- Maintain accurate client records for all program activities and support services.
- Track service delivery outcomes to ensure annual targets are met (e.g., 700 clients served annually).
- Prepare progress reports for management.
- Participate in evaluation and reporting to assess program effectiveness and areas for improvement.
- Support the multidisciplinary team in de-escalating situations and ensuring client safety.
- Collaborate with inter-professional teams, aligning with the Community Health Centre Model of Health and Wellbeing.
- Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and Centre-wide initiatives.
- Engage in training, professional development, and mentorship of students, interns, and volunteers.
- Support Centre-wide events, such as the annual general meeting, community activities, and special initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**:
- Post-secondary degree in Social Work, Counselling, Public Health, Community Development, Immigration Studies, or a related field.
- Experience working in settlement services, community outreach, or social services.
- Knowledge of Canadian social systems, government services, and community resources.
- Experience facilitating youth programming, cultural events, or language learning initiatives.
- Experience working with diverse cultural communities, religious groups, and marginalized populations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with diverse communities.
- Ability to build partnerships and foster connections within cultural and social networks.
- Experience in public speaking, group facilitation, and community event planning.
- Strong problem-solving and advocacy skills to assist clients in overcoming barriers.
- Strong understanding of barriers faced by marginalized communities and anti-racism, anti-discrimination, and anti-oppression principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and client management databases.
- Second language skills are an asset.
