**Carefirst Seniors & Community Services Association** is a non-profit community services agency. Since 1976, we have provided community support, home and personal health care services in a holistic manner to seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those with medical needs in the Greater Toronto, York, and Mississauga regions. With a staff of 500 members (including full-time and part-time staff) and the support of a pool of 850 active volunteers, we serve over 15,000 clients a year, including seniors and the physically disabled; 3,000 of whom are "home-bound" and frail. **TITLE: Community Ambassador**, High Priority Communities Program **TERM**: Full-time Contract **RESPONSIBILITIES**: - Organize and coordinate health education sessions, including (but not limited to) connecting with health educators such as physicians, physiotherapists, dietitians, etc. to promote sessions - Liaise with partner agencies to spread and promote health education - Share COVID-19 related information to local residents, community groups and local businesses - Conduct surveys about community needs for health education - Conduct evaluation among participants about education activities - Inform and educate community members on COVID-19 public health measures and reinforce provincial and regional guidelines for physical distancing, hand washing and mask wearing - Organize COVID-19 information sessions, and distribute resources through tabling sessions/events, presentations at local community venues, religious venues and businesses. - Dispel culturally specific myths/misinformation through culturally and language specific education and information sessions - Promote and educate the community of the COVID-19 vaccination program - Engage with local businesses, community groups, religious organizations, and respond to community members’ queries and concerns regarding COVID-19 and provide strategies and resources to reduce and mitigate the spread of COVID-19 - Conduct virtual wellness checks on community members in isolation due to a COVID-19 diagnosis - Refer community members to appropriate resources and supports within the community. - Report to the Project Director of High Priority Communities Program **QUALIFICATIONS**: - Degree in nursing, social work, sociology, psychology, or a related field - Experience in community services is an asset - Excellent communication and presentation skills to clearly convey information in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain messaging. - Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in English and a second language (Cantonese, Mandarin, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Tamil preferred) - Must be able to work a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends and from a variety of locations within the Regions of Markham and Scarborough. - Demonstrate a strong interest in making an impact in the community through service, leadership, and education - Ability to motivate a sometimes unreceptive, uninformed or misinformed diverse population, including community members, business owners and other local agencies to modify behavior to reduce and mitigate the spread of COVID-19. - A high degree of conflict management to dealing effectively with others in hostile situations; using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to reduce tension or conflict. - Sensitivity to people from different socio-economic backgrounds with an equity lens. - Self-directed, self-motivated, with a positive attitude and be able to work independently and as part of a team. - Ability to prioritize, multi-task and adjust to shifting priorities. - Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle. - Current vulnerable sector check (completed within one year) **COVID-19 Precautions**: - Carefirst has mandated a COVID-19 vaccination policy in place unless with exemption on a medical or other protected ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code._ - Carefirst is an equal opportunity employer.
