**Job Overview**
The YES Shelter Overnight Cleaner is an important member of the YES team. They ensure the health and well-being of shelter residents and staff by cleaning and sanitizing all areas of the shelter and adjacent classroom building (including walls, floors, windows, washrooms, kitchen, mattresses, pillows, furniture, and appliances) on a daily and weekly basis as scheduled. Complies with all Public Health standards for a communal living agency. Responsible for associated administrative tasks. This position will come in contact with people who are in stressful situations and must communicate with them respectfully and professionally, always maintaining confidentiality.

**Responsibilities**
- Cleaning and sanitizing all areas of the shelter, and adjacent classroom building, including walls, floors, stairways, windows, washrooms, kitchen, furniture, and appliances on a daily and weekly basis as scheduled.
- Assist in creating a logical schedule for cleaning tasks to ensure the whole shelter is cleaned on a regular basis.
- Store and organize supplies and equipment in a safe and secure manner and report when supplies are low so that they can be replaced.
- Fill out and maintain daily cleaning logs.
- Report and hazards or unsafe conditions to the shelter staff or shelter manager.
- Work in a non-judgmental and respectful manner
- Provide services in a professional, skilled manner in line with the philosophy of the agency's Mission Statement, policies and procedures and relevant legislation.
- Other duties as may be required.

**Qualifications**
- Excellent problem solving and decision making skills.
- Strong organizational skills and capacity to develop a clear, efficient work plan
- Reading and writing skills (in English) to record tasks and communicate with staff and residents
- Hard working, thorough, and reliable
- Experience in settings who serve vulnerable populations an asset
- Ability to work independently
- Experience (at least one year) and demonstrated knowledge of the safe use and practice of cleaning and sanitizing products and techniques
- Experience with proper infection control in a communal setting
- Ability to organize reasonable work routines and carry out regular cleaning and janitorial duties independently
- Ability to follow written instructions for use of cleaning equipment and chemicals
- Knows and complies with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
- Experience with cleaning offices and residential living to meet Public Health standards
- Able to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Commitment to doing a thorough job while following policies and procedures

**Certification Required**
- CAS record check
- Criminal records check with vulnerable persons clearance
- WHMIS
- Standard First Aid preferred
- Must sign confidentiality agreement

**Hours of Work**
- 35 hours per week (3:00 pm - 10:30 pm, with half hour unpaid meal break) Monday to Friday.

Pay: From $20.60 per hour

Expected hours: 30 per week
