**Training & Employment Coach**
Reporting to the Director of Trades, and under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Coach is responsible for supporting Indigenous trainees through the Skills for Success and apprentice foundation training programs.
**Education and Experience**
- Journeyperson Certification with three years construction experience, plus 1 year administration experience. Counselling experience is an asset. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities
- Excellent knowledge of First Nations Culture and Traditions
- **Class 5 drivers' license and access to a personal vehicle is a must-have** to support clients on job sites and to visit community partners
**Coaching and Support**
- Conduct a broad scope of current marketing to engage, inform and recruit potential applicants into the Trades Program, including: Facebook, posters, advertisements, attending career fairs, secondary schools, etc.
- Develop and deliver engaging presentations to trainees and other stakeholder groups.
- Participate in applicant panel interviews by asking questions, assessing individual eligibility and offering input on the suitability of acceptance into the program.
- Monitor academic and personal progress in the 8-week Skills for Success course by regularly checking in with Trainees and staff to source information on each individual’s attendance, progress and challenges.
- Provide coaching and guidance for resume, cover letter writing, and interviews, upon a client’s request. This is an added service to a client’s existing support they may receive from ACCESS Employment Services or student services at BCIT.
- Work with the Apprenticeship Advisor and Program Coordinator, assist with job search and placement by referring graduates to employer partners looking for workers; providing clients with a list of employer partners and provide new leads as we are contacted by employers.
- Advocate on behalf of the trainee throughout training by assessing each situation, discussing and offering ideas to support their continued success.
- Develop and maintain solid relationships with Trades partners and other stakeholders in training institutions, employers, and industry, contractors.
- Maintain current knowledge of grants and bursaries that are available to the trainees and provide writing and editing support to individuals as requested.
**Administration**
- Maintain current information on Trades database of trainees, employers and contacts.
- Maintain up to date records of program summaries; number of trainees, completion results, and employment outcomes for Director reports.
- Complete regular and adhoc reports as required by the Director and program funders.
- Maintain current knowledge of the BC labour market.
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
- Strong administrative, organizational and time management skills
- Solid written communication for messaging, correspondence, and reports.
- Great inter-personal and coaching skills: solid listening skills, seeing individuals where they are; providing coaching and support reflecting sound understanding and solutions.
- Strong relationship building skills for maintaining professional and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Solid public speaking skills, able to articulate and share messaging in a positive professional style to large and small audiences.
- Strong ability to provide feedback, recommendations and advice to clients in a respectful and when required, diplomatic manner,
- Assess need for assistance such as rehabilitation, financial aid or further training and refer clients to the appropriate services
- Thorough understanding of the SkillsTrade BC and apprenticeship in BC; keep up to date on current trades information.
- Competency using MS Office, database, power point, and learning new systems.
- Ability to remain objective and ethical in alignment with ACCESS core values throughout all work, and decision making.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
**Salary**: $31.00 per hour
