POSITION STATUS: Part Time - (Non-Union)

SCHEDULE: 4-8 hours per month (Hours range as this is supply work)

The Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf (BRCCED) is a multi-purpose, multi-program facility that functions as a community centre for the Deaf and as a non-profit charitable provider of services for the Deaf. The organization exists to provide care and opportunities in a communication-rich environment that enhances the quality of life of those we serve. Reporting to the Early Childhood Development Specialist, the Early Childhood Assistant (Supply) works cooperatively with the Early Childhood Development Specialist in the operation of the Rumball EarlyON Child and Family Centre.

PRIMARY DUTIES
- Assists with the running of events and workshops planned by the Early Childhood Development Specialist.
- Welcomes new families into the program and assists them in meeting staff and other families.
- Facilitates communication between Deaf and hearing families, when needed.
- Works cooperatively with the Early Childhood Development Specialist on the program planning for the EarlyON Child and Family Centre program.
- Assists the Early Childhood Development Specialist with the preparation of Children’s Services inspections.
- Assists in the setting up of age-appropriate activities for the children attending the program.
- Participates in self-development by reading the materials in the Family Resource Library.
- Participates in learning regarding the issues faced by Rumball EarlyON families.
- Remains current in knowledge of the various issues that families may face.
- Ensures families and caregivers are being provided neutral, unbiased support.
- Ensures that all new families fill out any necessary registration paperwork.
- Assists in the clean-up/set-up of the classroom on a daily basis, including sanitizing of toys and equipment.
- Assists in the serving of snacks
- Assists/leads story and song time

QUALIFICATIONS
- Early Childhood Assistant certification or a Parent of a Deaf or Hard of Hearing Child
- 2 years experience with young children, ages birth to 6 years, and families.
- Proficient in American Sign Language and English.
- Knowledge of issues related to Deafness, Deaf parents, and children with a hearing loss
- Experience in office administration and good computer skills (including word, excel, and social media)
- Strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines when faced with competing priorities
- French/LSQ an asset
