Through shelter, we empower. People all over the world partner with Habitat for humanity to build safe, stable, and affordable housing for people in need. Habitat also facilitates critical repairs to improve the shelter conditions of millions. With our help, Habitat for Humanity homeowners and residents achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to build a better life for themselves and their families.
Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North (OGN) has already partnered with nearly 60 families, including 121 children, in support of their access to safe, suitable, and affordable housing.
To ensure a fair and objective selection decision, as well as quality training, mentoring, and problem-solving support after selection, OGN engages the help of volunteer community leaders to form a Family Selection and Support Services committee. The Family Selection and Support Services Committee is led by the Family Services Manager and is otherwise a group of active, service-oriented volunteers who agree to participate in the selection and support of Habitat Partner Families in their local community. The delivery of Habitat for Humanity services in local communities relies on partnership with the Partner Families who are viewed in many ways as part of the Habitat team. Our Partner Families represent us in the community, demonstrate the values of OGN, such as neighbourly conduct and community service, and they contribute to the completion of Habitat Homes by supporting Fundraising and Communications activities. Partnership begins at the ‘Selection’ stage (before occupancy) and continues after initial occupancy (before an HFHOGN mortgage is implemented, if applicable) and until the Partner Family leaves the Habitat Home, even if the Mortgage (if applicable) is paid off. In this role, you work to ensure that OGN’s relationships with our Partner Families are strong, and the risks associated with broken relationships and/or Partner Family conduct that is not aligned with Habitat for Humanity’s values and expectations are mitigated.
The ability to work with OGN’s vast stakeholder network, external and internal, is imperative. Internal teams include Finance, Project Planning and Construction, Communications, Fundraising, and others as required. **You operate comfortably in government, private, public, corporate, and grassroots environments. You have a deep understanding of the commercial imperative, and you are fiercely protective of the organization’s fiscal health and sustainability while maintaining a mission focus and an ethos of community service.**
