The Nova Scotia Construction Sector Council (NSCSC) has an immediate opening for a friendly organized “do-er” with superior communication and organizational skills. Working under the direction of the Executive Director, the Youth Outreach Coordinator (YOC) will be responsible for delivering the
Mobile Construction Experience (MCE), a youth and community engagement program aimed at providing an interactive career awareness experience for rural Nova Scotia. The MCE is a mobile and modified version of the Council’s Trades Exhibition Hall.
**Main Duties & Responsibilities**
As the Youth Outreach Coordinator, you will be responsible for:
Planning/Implementation
- Coordinating the delivery of the MCE program (focused on Grade 7 & 8 students and the larger community) to learn about construction occupations through hands-on immersive activities and educational displays
- Building relationships with educators across the province to learn how the program can be integrated into current curriculum outcomes
- Researching, sourcing and acquiring materials and equipment for the delivery of the program
- Researching and developing relevant program communications including necessary forms, letters, reports, safety plans, etc.
- Assisting with the completion of funding and claim documents associated with the delivery of the program
- Coordinating industry professionals and others to participate in the program events
- Managing all aspects of the events including coordinating facilities, staffing displays, tours, transportation of displays, travel, etc.
- Supervising the events to ensure program outcomes are met
- Developing expanded programming in response to real-time demands
Education/Engagement
- Defining clear learning outcomes for students who participate in the events and developing or sourcing the necessary resources to reach those outcomes
- Developing a sponsorship strategy that involves partnering with industry organizations, suppliers and others to maximize resources and funding opportunities
- Coordinating any necessary training or orientation activities for event participants, both students and industry professionals
- Surveying participants and analyzing the results in order to develop statistics on the effectiveness and quality of the program
Communications
- Weekly logging of project activities to meet reporting requirements
- Leveraging social media platforms to promote and highlight program events
- Preparing regular reports on the delivery of the program
- Serving as a representative of the NSCSC at events as required to promote program opportunities
- Attending meetings as required to report on the progress and delivery of activities
Other
- Serve as back-up for and support the Trades Exhibition Hall Coordinator in youth/career promotion activities, such as career fairs, school visits and presentations
- Other duties that may be required for the efficient delivery of Council services and initiatives
- Outstanding communication skills (written and verbal)
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills with excellent attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal skills with emphasis on listening, leadership, mediation and customer service
- Ability to develop strong industry relationships
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced results-oriented environment
- Flexibility to adapt to changes in project requirements, scheduling, and deliverables
- Proactive - takes initiative and possesses excellent research and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Aptitude and interest in various technologies considered an asset
- Knowledge of social media platforms in a business context
- Able to obtain a clear criminal record check
- Valid driver’s license and own transportation
- Individual must be able to meet physical demands as required, including (but not limited to): lifting/pushing/pulling of approximately 50 lbs, bending, standing for extended periods, and walking for extended periods
