**GIS Technician**:
**(Full Time)**

**Reporting to the GIS Supervisor you will**:Assist management in the efficient and effective operation
of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and services within the City of Chilliwack. In this position you will be responsible for the creation and ongoing maintenance of the city's property cadastre and engineering GIS data assets, and collaborating with municipal staff and officials to determine and respond to the GIS needs of the organization.

**The work includes the following activities**:

- Review infrastructure designs, drawings, and reports, to ensure conformity to city standards and specifications.
- Input engineering and property cadastre data from construction drawings into the city’s enterprise GIS database.
- Manage digital drawing files, and tabular and spatial datasets. Ensure data accuracy and completeness.
- Use coordinate geometry in a GIS editing environment to create features (parcels, easements / Right-of-ways, roads, water/storm/sanitary infrastructure, etc.).
- Create custom maps, charts, graphs and plans.
- Respond to inquiries regarding property cadastre, engineering infrastructure, and GIS data.

**Education**:
Must be a graduate of a recognized Institute of Technology of a two-year Geographic Information Systems Technology Program, or possess comparable skills and experience including undergraduate coursework that includes a focus of study in Geographic Information Systems.

**Skills & Abilities**:

- Must be proficient in managing digital drawing files, and tabular and spatial datasets; and demonstrate an aptitude for ensuring data accuracy and completeness;
- Experience interacting with a relational database, and writing structured queries to retrieve information;
- Strong familiarity with reading survey plans, and working knowledge of drafting practices;
- Familiar with coordinate geometry, map projections, and coordinate systems;
- Must understand best practices for spatial data file interoperability, and CAD to GIS conversion;
- Familiar with field surveying (including GPS) concepts and techniques;
- Experience in working as part of a GIS team in a municipal setting would be an asset.
- Able to work within the multifaceted municipal setting;
- Able to work with minimum supervision and to exercise judgment in the performance of duties in accordance with established priorities;
- Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department officials and other members of staff.

Education : College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years
