Funeral Director

**Position Overview**

**NEED TO BE WILLING TO RELOCATE TO THE OKANAGAN**

The Managerial Funeral Director oversees all day-to-day operations of a busy, high-performing funeral home in British Columbia. This role requires a licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer (or Funeral Director only if applicable) under BC’s regulatory framework.

They lead staff, ensure exceptional client care, maintain regulatory compliance, and uphold the brand’s standards of professionalism, compassion, and operational excellence.

Regular travel between multiple funeral home locations is required.

**Key Responsibilities**

1. Operational Leadership
- Oversee daily operations, case flow, and service scheduling across all assigned locations.
- Ensure smooth coordination of removals, arrangements, embalming, visitations, funerals, and cremation/burial services.
- Maintain facility standards, equipment safety, and cleanliness at each site.
- Implement operational policies, procedures, and workflow improvements.

2. Staff Management & Development
- Supervise funeral directors, embalmers, transfer staff, and administrative personnel across multiple locations.
- Conduct hiring, training, scheduling, performance management, and evaluations.
- Foster a supportive, professional culture built on respect, accountability, and high-quality service.
- Lead team meetings, cross-location coordination, and mentorship initiatives.

3. Client Care & Family Services
- Meet with families to provide guidance, arrangement planning, and service options.
- Ensure a consistent, compassionate client experience throughout all locations.
- Oversee personalization of services and ensure cultural, religious, and community needs are met.
- Resolve concerns promptly and professionally.

4. Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain full compliance with BC’s Cremation, Interment and Funeral Services Act (CIFSA), Consumer Protection BC regulations, and Vital Statistics requirements across all branches.
- Oversee documentation accuracy, permits, licences, contracts, and case files.
- Ensure ethical handling of human remains and proper chain-of-custody practices.

5. Financial & Administrative Duties
- Manage case costing, invoicing, accounts receivable, and inventory control at each location.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation.
- Review supplier relationships and service contracts.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and monthly compliance submissions.

6. Community Relations & Business Growth
- Represent the funeral home in all communities served with professionalism and integrity.
- Build relationships with clergy, care homes, healthcare providers, and community partners.
- Support marketing efforts, outreach programs, and brand consistency across regions.
- Seek opportunities to enhance reputation and service offerings.

**Qualifications**:

- Licensed Funeral Director in British Columbia (Embalmer licence preferred but optional depending on structure).
- Minimum 5 years of funeral service experience; 2+ years in a supervisory/management role preferred.
- Must be willing and able to travel between multiple funeral home locations.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Strong understanding of CIFSA regulations and compliance.
- High emotional intelligence, discretion, and professionalism.
- Ability to manage multiple cases, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.
