Maintenance Worker

**Job Summary**
Reporting to the Manager of Maintenance, the maintenance worker is responsible for operation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and HVAC. He/she repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with blueprints, operating manuals of manufacturer’s specifications.
**Typical duties**:
1. Verifies proper function and maintenance of all building equipment as designed.
2. Monitors security and fire alarm systems.
3. Performs maintenance of safety controls indicators such as emergency lights and smoke detector fire testing. Updates maintenance logs.
4. Implement schedule changes and monitor HVAC control system.
5. Painting and minor prep for wall and ceilings (repairs requiring new plasterboard would be performed by an outside contractor).
6. Basic repairs to plumbing and electrical fixtures, locks, doors, and other minor repairs.
7. Provide assistance for room set-ups and take downs for events.
8. Removal of trash and garbage.
9. Cleaning sidewalks of trash, leaves, snow.
10. Covers duties and responsibilities in the absence of the manager.
11. General lavatory repairs (sinks, flush meters, toilets, etc.)
12. Participates in emergency response teams.
13. Work a flexible schedule and be on-call on weekends/evenings/stats
14. Respond to emergencies when needed.
**Required Education, Skills and Qualifications**
- Grade 10 plus, at least THREE years of recent building maintenance experience in hospitals or care home or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Valid BC Drivers License.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Ability to organize work.
