Vancouver Shipyards, based in North Vancouver, has been very busy working on some exciting projects. We continue to make progress on two 174m long Joint Support Ships (JSS) for the Royal Canadian Navy - the largest ships ever built in Canada We are working towards delivery of an Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel (OOSV) for the Canadian Coast Guard and will be starting construction later this year of the first heavy Polar Icebreaker built in Canada for over 50 years.
Following that we have several Multi-Purpose Vessels that are currently designing for construction in years to come. These projects bring long-term job stability on some of the most exciting and significant shipbuilding opportunities in the world.
The Area Manager, Pipe reports to the Trade Manager and is responsible for managing all production activities within a specific area, overseeing Trade Supervisors, Pipe and their team of pipe tradespeople. The position must ensure safety, quality, cost and schedule adherence of the blocks and zones within the shipyard in order to contribute to efficient operations. This position will require daily liaison with Safety, Quality & Accuracy Control, and Trade Personnel.
**Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.**
**The following schedule is available**:
- Afternoon: 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm (Monday to Friday)
**What you’ll do**
- Responsible for the safety of all employees working in assigned Area’s during the construction process.
- Communicates HSEQ plans to General Supervisors and ensures that all employees look to eliminate safety hazards at every opportunity.
- Manages and coordinates the work and schedules with General Supervisors, subcontractors and vendors within Area.
- Ensures schedules are managed to current installation methods and technologies in order to complete work with mínimal disruption to other Stage of Construction (SoC) activities.
- Monitors and reports safety, quality, cost and schedule performance for all work in assigned Area and advises SOC Manager if deviations are anticipated. Initiates timely corrective action plans necessary to maintain overall schedule adherence.
- Verifies completion of production work for each phase of the block/zone. Conducts necessary inspections and reports results to the Ship Area Managers.
- Provides input to Trade Manager for trade improvements (related to training, equipment or process) necessary for optimal build strategy implementation.
- Works with Supply Chain to resolve material, quality and schedule issues.
- Active daily management and maintenance of Seaspan Production Systems.
- Monitors team performance, coaches General Supervisors, Pipe and initiates and follows through on necessary improvements and recognizes worker performance.
- Performs all job-related responsibilities in accordance with Seaspan’s Core Values and leads by example.
**What you’ll bring**
- Red Seal Steamfitter/Pipefitter.
- Minimum 5 years of senior, related work experience. Proficient knowledge of trade responsibilities specific to heavy industrial manufacturing (welding, metal fabrication, electrical, pipefitting, paint/sandblasting, mechanical, rigging).
- 5+ years of supervisory and management experience in a union environment.
- Strong written, verbal and electronic communication skills.

Pay: $137,000.00-$154,000.00 per year
