The role
We have an exciting new opportunity for a Strategic Sourcing and Category Manager, based out of Calgary reporting to the Director, Strategic Sourcing (G&S). Are you passionate about technology driven innovation? Do you pride yourself on driving change, creating efficiencies while honing your skills as a negotiator and sourcing expert? Do you have experience facilitating cross-functional collaboration with other teams to solve complex problems and present recommendations to senior management? This role will be responsible for driving the development and execution of Strategic Sourcing & Category Strategies related to our Consumer Premise Equipment Segment.
A typical day
- Partner with stakeholders to support business objectives and business roadmaps
- Category Management: Keep category and spend profiles current, develop, and implement category strategies to meet current and future business requirements
- Lead the development of contract strategy and execution: In partnership with legal and business partners, lead and execute on sourcing and negotiation strategies which deliver key specifications and high value
- Analyzing spend and cost modeling: proactively track industry benchmarks, actual unit/service cost, demand, logistics and market capacity factors that impact total cost of ownership (TCO).
- RFX services: Partner internally to develop clear third-party requirements (technical & commercial) and drive to selection for all single source, RFI, RFP and RFQ services
- Develop negotiation grid & approach, link & trades, fallback positions, acceptable terms, and prepare a legally binding and enforceable documents.
- Supplier Performance Management: Ensure supplier contractual adherence, identify risks & mitigation strategies, monitor supplier financial strength, research root cause of issues, own/drive improved performance and ensure delivery of expectations
- Be a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders on supply chain strategic sourcing activities which could include various integration activities and contract strategy/rationalization activities
- Ensure compliance with purchasing policies and procedures, ethical practices and adherence to relevant laws and regulations
- Reduce risks (supply, financial, environmental, reputational, and security risks) through active participation in Shaw’s Supplier Risk Management (SRM) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) programs
- Deliver cost savings

Your skills/experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, supply chain management and leading strategic projects
- University or post-secondary degree or equivalent practical experience is required; MBA or post graduate degree in a related field would be an asset
- Must be able to demonstrate a high level of financial and problem-solving acumen
- Experience in forming category profiles and strategies
- Expertise in contract negotiation and contract drafting
- Experience with contract and supplier performance management
- Ability to work with ambiguity and influence change
- Experience with consumer electronics and manufacturing would be considered an asset
- Experience and strong knowledge of INCOTERMS and logistics would be considered an asset
- Excellent relationship building, interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills required
