**Responsibilities**
- Routine sample preparation of Steelmaking chemistry and metallographic investigation samples. This includes cutting, grinding, checking of surface quality of ground samples, mounting, polishing, and heat treatment.
- Sample and heat identification including order and numbering of samples, heat numbering and determination, segregation sampling and recognition of incorrect sampling, mixed grade sequence cast sampling and recognition of incorrect sampling, types of non-routine samples and method of handling.
- Operation of the ARL 3460 and ARL 4460 Spectrometer to analyze routine & non-routine chemistry samples and all associated reporting functions.
- Operation of Ranger 2 Slag analyzer.
- Hardness testing involving jominy and heat-treated, grinding rod hardness puck samples.
- Act as relief for the Etch Lab Inspector.
- Data entry into computer systems.
- On-shift heat approval involving heat release criteria, SteelMes release methods, holding billets, recognition of abnormal chemistry, holding mixed grade sequence cast heats, and documentation.
- Qualified First Aider. The Lab analyst is the first aid contact on shift for all necessary first aid requirements. The analyst may be required to travel to various areas of the plant depending on the incident.

**Qualifications and Experience**
- Post Secondary education is considered an asset
- Highly detail oriented and able to follow and understand policies and procedures
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities
- Intermediate to Advanced computer skills
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Previous industrial experience is an asset
- Use of power tools
- Previous work in a metallurgy/technical lab is an asset
- First aid certification is an asset
