Bakery Manager

**Buy Low Foods **are currently seeking an experienced **Bakery Department Manager** for our store in **Nanaimo, BC**. This role is full-time and reports to the Store Manager.

We are looking for a strong leader who has a passion for fresh food and who can efficiently oversee the daily operations of the Bakery Department in terms of staffing, sales, customer service, merchandising, and product quality.

**Job Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Provide supervision to department staff to ensure quality customer service
- Maximize sales and gross profit through effective and creative merchandising
- Maintain department inventory by placing product orders regularly while adhering to departmental budgets
- Recruit, hire, train, and mentor staff members
- Create the weekly department work schedule
- Prepare and package a wide variety of baked goods
- Efficiently stock and display product in a neat and appealing manner to ensure quality and freshness
- Ensure all prepared items are properly labeled, covered and rotated
- Ensure the proper set up of racks, tables, coolers, backroom areas
- Handle customer inquiries, requests and complaints in a prompt, polite and effective manner
- Operate and sanitize all equipment in a safe and proper manner
- Comply with the Company’s established Health and Safety and Food Safety policies and ensure that staff members are also adhering to these policies
- Responsible for ensuring accuracy of store signage with regards to pricing
- Liaise with the store manager, department heads and bakery staff to address any concerns, discuss upcoming ads or promotions, cross merchandising, etc.

**Skills and Qualifications**:

- Previous retail supervisory experience, preferably in a Bakery / Grocery environment
- Able to lead a team in an enthusiastic and positive manner
- Superb customer service skills with a desire to provide a great shopping experience for customers
- Exceptional leadership and organizational skills
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation, policies and practices
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure
- Able to maintain a professional demeanor under stressful situations
- Experience in effective merchandising that drives sales
- Have experience ordering and maintaining department stock
- Flexibility to work a variety of hours which include days, evenings, weekends and stat holidays

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Ability to perform physically demanding, repetitive tasks for extended periods of time
- Job requires manual dexterity, attention to detail, hand-eye co-ordination
- Walking and standing for extended periods including bending, twisting, crouching and kneeling at times

Pay: From $21.00 per hour
