At the University of Manitoba, what inspires you can change everything. **The opportunity**: The Donor Relations Officer is part of the team providing fundraising expertise and leadership to faculties, schools and departments. They will work to increase annual support for the University of Manitoba at the leadership level and build the donor pipeline for future support. The incumbent reports to the Director, Major Gifts (Foundations and Law) and is responsible for the overall comprehensive fundraising plans and strategies for the unit and projects and will ensure they are consistent with the unit’s fundraising goals. The intended result is increased outright and deferred major gifts to the unit. This includes collaborating with staff in Donor Relations in planning, implementing and managing a fundraising program for the faculty with a focus on major gifts solicitation for assigned prospects and for maintaining a tracking and reporting system to manage the funds, donors and prospects for which she/he is responsible. Major responsibilities include: developing strategies and overseeing the fund-raising cycle, including discovery, cultivation, advanced cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. The position will receive prospect clearance and pipeline management, research, stewardship and development assistance from the Donor Relations team. In addition they will work closely with high-level corporate volunteers and individuals who are planning significant gifts to the faculty/school/department. **The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**: - University Bachelor's degree is required. - Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation an asset. - 5 years' experience in successful fundraising is required, with at least 2 years' experience in major gift solicitation. - A proven record of successful major gift fundraising is required. - Experience with higher education fundraising is an asset. - Success interacting with the public in a wide variety of settings is required. - Experience in public speaking and making presentations is required. - Experience in making cold calls. - An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. - Excellent interpersonal, communication (both written and verbal), public speaking and presentation, facilitation and negotiation skills required. - Demonstrated ability to guard confidentiality required. - Ability to manage multiple projects from conception to completion with tightly prescribed timelines required. - Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively with donors, alumni, academic and administrative staff, students and volunteers required. - Ability to work with deans and faculty members to identify and establish the faculty/college/unit's priorities and to articulate them in a written case for support, and to ensure that the case for support is kept up to date is an asset. - Ability to write accurate, effective and compelling funding proposals required. - Must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor relationships. - Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and supervise activities required. - Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to work independently are essential. - Sound knowledge of laws, practices and philosophy of charitable giving is required. - Must be able to work independently and be self-motivated in initiating contacts with potential donors. - Must be able to articulate the case for support so that individuals "buy in" to the vision/mission/goals and with sufficient effectiveness to secure gifts at assigned donor giving levels. - Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required - Level of maturity to work with people of all ages. - Membership in Professional Associations encouraged. - Ability to relate well with others, to work cooperatively and harmoniously with colleagues. - Ability to work with and delegate work in a spirit of encouragement and mentorship. **Why the University of Manitoba?** Along with being one of Manitoba’s top employers, we are proud to provide a collaborative and enriching work environment.
