**About Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI)**

The Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI) is the scientifically acclaimed applied research division of Olds College of Agriculture and Technology. OCCI works with industry partners, other research organizations, and the College’s Smart Ag Ecosystem to define and execute applied research projects. OCCI’s goal is to accelerate the development and adoption of agricultural technologies and practices to improve productivity and sustainability of food production. OCCI’s current focus is on broadacre, dryland crop production, beef production, and sheep production with a focus on integrating technology and utilizing data for better management decisions.

**The Opportunity - Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Administrator - permanent, part-time (0.4 FTE)**
- This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement Job Classification: Administrative Officer_

**Key Job Functions**:
Administration
- Confirm meeting attendance and ensure that there will be community member and veterinarian participation - Follow-up to ensure quorum
- Take and prepare detailed minutes during meetings, using the incumbent’s strong understanding of science and animal use procedures, and send the draft minutes to the IACUC Coordinator for review and to finalize
- Maintain and be responsible for website content management of the Olds College IACUC website

Documentation
- Manage / update the Animal Use Protocol (AUP) Master Spreadsheet
- Manage / update Letters of Approval spreadsheet after meetings
- Develop a tracking sheet that includes post mortem reports
- Draft letters of approval after meetings and send to the IACUC Coordinator for review and to finalize
- Keep track of end dates of projects and programs and request and review for completeness documentation, including closing reports from Principal Investigators at the completion of projects

Committee
- Send out and collect confidentiality forms, keep track of the signed forms and update the new member’s spreadsheet
- Be a point of contact for the committee members
- Ensure that new members are added to the meeting invites
- Lead the orientation of new members (including students) to the committee

Training
- Develop a certification process and prepare certificates after training completion
- Develop and keep up-to-date a training completion spreadsheet

Site Assessment Visits
- Take notes during the site assessments visits to animal facilities at Olds College
- Collect notes and draft the site assessment reports and submit them to the IACUC Coordinator for review before they are finalized and shared with the committee for discussion

Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC)
- Collect animal use / Animal Count numbers from Instructors, Principal Investigators (PIs) and Program Administrators starting annually in January. Respond to questions posed by Instructors / Principal Investigators
- Prepare the Animal Count documentation (AUDF - Animal Use Data Form) for Olds College and submit to the CCAC by March 31 annually
- Assist with preparations for the CCAC Assessment visits (that occur every three years)
- Confirm attendance for the CCAC Assessment visit
- Take and prepare detailed minutes during the assessment visit, using the incumbent’s strong understanding of science and procedures, and send the draft minutes to the IACUC Coordinator for review and to finalize
- Support the preparation of responses to the CCAC recommendations

**Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required**:

- BSc in Animal Science or related field with an MSc considered a strong asset
- Two years’ work experience within a technical field in a team setting
- In depth knowledge or background in livestock farming
- A strong background with a minimum of two year’s experience in livestock research, scientific writing, basic scientific experimental design and data collection
- A background in animal welfare is considered a strong asset
- Detail-oriented, proactive and professional with the ability to work under mínimal supervision
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
