**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is accountable for the leadership, strategic direction, and oversight of five distinct business units/functions within the Employment Standards Program Delivery Branch (ESPD). These units are critical to delivering the employment standards system in Alberta and include Registrar, Appeals, Permits and Variances, Education/Outreach/Partnerships, Quality Assurance and Business Analysis, and the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office (TFWAO). The Director also maintains strong working relationships, oversight, and coordinates with ministry partners responsible for the Employment Standards Contact Center and Employment Standards Collections services. Additionally, the Director manages approximately 27 staff, initiates strategies, and leads projects and services to achieve departmental goals for delivering fair and equitable Employment Standards appeals processes and services across the province.

The Director establishes outcomes, sets priorities, and leads the implementation, monitoring, and measurement of education and partnership initiatives, ensuring continuous improvement in the design, development, and delivery of Employment Standards (ES) education, outreach, and partnership programs. The Director oversees the development of educational programs (i.e., workshops, seminars, and online courses), innovative technology-based tools, and strategic outreach practices, including high-profile initiatives such as public education products and multimedia public-awareness campaigns. Additionally, the Director proactively engages with, builds, and manages strategic relationships with numerous stakeholders, including executive representatives from Alberta’s industries and employee groups. Developing networks is essential for obtaining support for strategic initiatives and assisting in the creation of fair workplaces.

**Role Responsibilities Continued**:
The Director of Program Services also serves as the appointed ‘Registrar’ for the ESPD Registrar’s Appeals Office. This role is responsible for upholding the powers granted to the Registrar under the Employment Standards Code and Regulation. The Director ensures the appropriate and timely review of appeals, including purposeful communication with affected parties. Efforts are made to resolve disputes prior to an Appeal Hearing; however, the Office also represents the ‘Director’ under the Code before an Appeal Body. Additionally, the Director contributes to policy and procedure development, as well as quality assurance, through a system of audits aimed at continuous improvement and learning. This includes overseeing the quality of investigations conducted by Officers, specifically their adherence to ES legislation and policy.

As a member of the branch’s Senior Leadership Team, the Director plays a pivotal role in developing branch priorities, goals, and strategic and operational plans. The Director manages contracted services and allocates resources, ensuring that the Departmental, Divisional, and Branch mission, vision, and objectives are translated into effective services for Albertans. Additionally, the Director is accountable for the effective fiscal management of a $2 million operational budget and a $500,000 trust account.
