**Online Facilitator, Sociology, SOC 216.3 (Fully Online)**:
**Nature of Work**: Reporting to the Department Head of the Department of Sociology, this position is responsible for instructing and facilitating an online distance education class. The online instructor will use web-based course tools to communicate with students, facilitate discussions and accept and grade assignments. Applicants must have above average technical, administrative and pedagogical competencies. The position can exercise some discretion regarding office hours ensuring active participation and timely communication with students and administrators. The online instructor must be committed to online teaching, act professionally, communicate clearly (written and oral) and foster student involvement through activities and discussions that are vibrant and engaging to facilitate positive student outcomes.

**Typical Duties or Accountabilities**:

- Ensures that the online class materials follow appropriate copyright reporting guidelines and policies and are up-to-date and available for student access prior to the start of term
- Maintains regular office hours for student inquiries regarding online course material, assignments and evaluation
- Actively monitors and facilitates online group discussion activities (if applicable)
- Communicates regularly and effectively with students to review and update progress towards their learning goals, performance of coursework, and overall course progress
- Reports any concerns regarding student progress to the Department Head
- Grades all assignments within one week of student submission and return to students with informative feedback
- Prepares and grades final examination and reports final marks
- Invigilates the final exam (if required)
- Provides feedback to the Department Head regarding possible minor revision or corrections to online content

**Experience**: A relevant teaching position and/or experience teaching a course with related content. Experience teaching in an online setting is considered an asset.
