- The Engagement Research Officer plays a key role in SHARE’s shareholder engagement program.
- You’ll contribute timely, actionable research and analysis to support the development and execution of effective corporate engagement that helps make real-world changes.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
The key responsibilities outlined below are descriptive in nature and are not an exhaustive or comprehensive list of all possible job responsibilities, tasks, and duties.
**But here’s some of what you will do at SHARE**:
- Monitor and research publicly-traded companies and analyze key disclosures including regulatory filings, sustainability reports, websites and other information;
- Compare and benchmark corporate practices on social issues, including decent work and human rights;
- Prepare decision-useful briefs to assist in preparation and execution of engagement with companies to change policies and practices;
- Maintain relationships with and monitor developments from research partners, relevant stakeholder groups, and experts in relevant fields;
- Contribute to drafting and review of client and internal communications about engagement themes and companies, including policy briefs, blog posts, and research reports;
- Contribute to developing shared knowledge and capacity across SHARE's programs, to develop better practices, and strengthen processes; and
- Contribute to the development of systems and culture to support a dynamic and growing program.
**COMPETENCIES**
- Strategic thinking; common sense; political acuity, discretion and tact;
- Ability to research topics related to social (decent work and human rights) and governance policies and practices of publicly-traded companies;
- Working knowledge of related to key social and governance issues is required. Familiarity with common reporting frameworks & standards used in responsible investment analysis is a strong asset;
- Ability to synthesize complex issues and problems;
- Advanced data analytical skills are considered a strong asset;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Excellent record-keeping, organizational and time management skills, including the ability to set priorities and balance competing deadlines and pressures;
- Ability to work independently on a variety of tasks and contribute as part of a team;
- Proficiency with cloud-based collaboration tools, CRM databases, Microsoft Suite, and relevant database and data analysis tools is an asset.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- **Minimum three years of experience in a related research role.**:
- Bachelor or higher degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience related to law, human rights, political science or corporate social responsibility.
- Demonstrated interest in business, responsible investment, and financial markets in Canada and internationally;
- Demonstrated expertise of relevant concepts, research and standards related to human rights, sustainability and decent work;
- Strong, demonstrated experience working on action-oriented research and policy analysis in support of impactful, issues campaigns.
- Fluency in English is required. Fluency in French is considered a strong asset.
