**About us**:
The University of Toronto Libraries system is the largest academic library in Canada and is consistently ranked in the top ten among academic research libraries in North America. The system consists of 40 libraries located on three university campuses: St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough. This array of college libraries, special collections, and specialized libraries and information centres supports the teaching and research requirements of over 300 graduate programs, more than 70 professional programs, and about 700 undergraduate degree programs. In addition to more than 15 million volumes in 341 languages, the library system currently provides access to millions of electronic resources in various forms and over 31,000 linear metres of archival material. More than 150,000 new print volumes are acquired each year. The Libraries' data centre houses more than 500 servers with a storage capacity of 1.5 petabytes.
**Your opportunity**:
Reporting to the University Archivist, the Digital Records Archivist plays an important role in preserving the University of Toronto Archives’ digital collections to ensure their long-term preservation and accessibility. The Digital Records Archivist is responsible for implementing digital preservation plans, engage in digital curation and collection development, and create and provide guidance on metadata for digital materials. Additionally, the Digital Records Archivist helps ensure access to UTARMS’ digital collections, assesses and appraises incoming donations of digital materials, and arranges and describes both born-digital materials as well as hybrid collections of records. The role also involves participating in UTARMS’ web archiving program, troubleshooting technical issues, performing regular reference shifts in the Reading Room, and assisting with seminars and workshops.
**Your responsibilities will include**:
- Implementing plans and process improvements for digital archival activities
- Developing and maintaining quality control procedures
- Analyzing and recommending standards for the description and preservation of born-digital and digitized archival records
- Creating finding aids to ensure collection materials are accessible
- Processing items in the physical and digital collections for researchers and users
- Analyzing and recommending changes to processes related to archival records
**Essential Qualifications**:
- Master's Degree in Archival Studies, Library or Information, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
- Minimum of six to seven years experience working in a library/archives environment, preferably with digital collections.
- Excellent knowledge of archival standards and best practices
- Experience working with current and non-current archival and special collections
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented; works with attention to accuracy
- Proven initiative, flexibility and ability to learn new technologies and organizational systems
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
