**Coordinator, Learning Communities**:
**Primary Purpose**: This position supports the development and delivery of Arts and Science Learning Communities programs. This includes FLEX (First Year Learning Experience), USTEP (University of Saskatchewan Transition Entrance Program), Level-UP, and any other non-academic programming.
**Nature of Work**: Reporting to the Manager, First Year Programs and Recruitment, the Coordinator provides key support services for all students in the Arts and Science Learning Communities. This position also provides key support services by coordinating and training upper-year students volunteering as Peer Mentors in the Arts and Science Peer Mentor Program.
As a member of the UGSO, the Learning Communities Coordinator also supports the work of Academic Advisors, Student Services staff, and the College of Arts and Science Recruitment team.
The work is dynamic and some discretion is expected within established policies, procedures and guidelines. Periods of high-volume, administrative-heavy work are expected. Competing deadlines and multi-tasking is the norm. Frequent interaction with students requires effective interpersonal, intercultural and communication skills. The position requires high levels of concentration, attention to detail, focus, sensitivity, and professionalism. Occasional work outside of regular hours (e.g., weekends, evenings) may be required.
**Accountabilities**:
- Coordinates all aspects of the Arts and Science Learning Communities programs including, but not limited to, promotion, recruitment, volunteer training, scheduling, assessment of program success, and redevelopment of programming;
- Oversees the recruitment, hiring, initial and ongoing training, supervision, and development of Arts and SciencePeer Mentors;
- Coordinates cocurricular activities presented and facilitated by Peer Mentors in the Learning Community Hours;
- Works closely with other student support specialists in the University of Saskatchewan;
- Monitors student data, including course registration, attendance, cumulative weighted average, and academic standing;
- Communicates with and provides outreach to students not meeting program requirements. This could include instances of non-attendance, low averages, or other unmet conditions for participation;
- Provides strategic referrals to students who require additional support from other on-campus and off-campus support specialists;
- Answers inquiries from students regarding selection of and registration in Learning Communities;
- Collates yearly data and provides year-end reports on Learning Community enrolment, participation, and success;
- Contributes to the Learning Communities vision by assisting with the development of strategic plans, beneficial partnerships, innovative programming, implementation plans, and assessment strategies;
- Assists the Manager with the research, development, and implementation of innovative and best practices for student success;
- Participates in the recruitment and retention of students in the College of Arts and Science;
- Provides the Director and Managers with expert counsel on issues that impact the unit and/or student success;
- Other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**:
**Education**: An undergraduate degree is required. A bachelor’s degree in an Arts and Science discipline is considered an asset.
**Experience**: Preference will be given to applicants who have a minimum of two years of experience in an relevant student support role (e.g., academic advising, counselling). Knowledge and awareness of current University support services are essential.
