Boyle Street is launching the **_Wâwâhtêwa_** Arts and Culture Hub**, a welcoming and inclusive public space open to all people. The **_Wâwâhtêwa_**Hub will offer a range of services centered on access to intentional arts and cultural programming, while also providing a safe place for coffee, companionship, basic needs, and supported connection to resources for neighbours experiencing vulnerability. Rooted in strong community engagement and positive relationship-building, the_ _**_Wâwâhtêwa_**Hub will serve as a vital starting point for individuals to connect with resources, express themselves creatively, and build meaningful pathways toward well-being. The support worker will be vital to the program's daily operations, being part of a multidisciplinary team, and ensuring the **_Wâwâhtêwa_**Hub remains a vibrant, culturally rich, and trauma-informed space for all who walk through its doors.
The **_Wâwâhtêwa_** Arts and Culture Hub support worker will be responsible for actively supporting all members from our community that come through our doors, making referrals to program’s case manager, supporting volunteers, and programming processes.

**Project Purpose**:
- To create a welcoming and engaging space for Community Members (CM) who are experiencing homelessness and/or isolation:
- To engage in arts and culture activities and programming.
- Access basic needs support: basic food (coffee, snacks, bagged lunches), clothing, and hygiene products.
- To foster person-to-person relationships that shift the dynamic between those who are vulnerable and other members of the community to be more positive
- To build relationships that support efforts toward reconciliation, healing, and forgiveness.
**Position Responsibilities**:
- Participate and/or facilitate arts and cultural programming that is trauma-informed, inclusive, and accessible to vulnerable community members.
- Ensure that programming aligns with the organization's mission, values, and strategic goals.
- Support the creation of an inclusive, safe and friendly environment for all staff, community members and external parties.
- Develop relationships with community members, identifying strengths and working respectfully with a community that has faced trauma and social exclusion.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive written documentation.
- Engage participants in co-creating programming that reflects their interests, cultures, and experiences.
- Provide direct support to volunteers.
- Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with local artists, cultural organizations, Indigenous knowledge keepers, and service providers.
- Deliver crisis intervention as needed, including risk assessment and follow-up until the situation has stabilized.
- Contribute to strategic planning efforts for the broader organization and advocate for the arts as a key pillar of community support.
- Work collaboratively with other Boyle Street programs to plan, coordinate, and deliver integrated programming through the Wâwâhtêwa Hub.
- Maintain a healthy environment by performing a variety of cleaning and housekeeping duties as required: sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning/clearing tables, washing dishes, etc.
- BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will participate in events (both during the workweek and occasionally on weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking, etc.

**Education, Experience & Skills**:
- Understand the challenges and stresses facing people who live in poverty.
- Treat people with respect and sensitivity.
- Knows how to problem-solve with people who face emotional and psychological challenges.
- Able to handle multiple demands at the same time; exceptionally well organized.
- Listens well, has a calm demeanor, and knows how to solve practical problems.
- Possess robust mental health and a commitment to self-care.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel in particular).
- Experience working with Indigenous people and individuals from diverse cultures.
- Background in community development, social work, occupational therapy or another related field.
**Training & Screening Requirements**:
- Valid First Aid certificate required
- Police Information Check kept up to date (every 3 years) - results will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis
