The Lead Hand plays a key role in overseeing daily construction activities, ensuring all work is carried out efficiently, on schedule and in strict adherence to safety regulations and building codes. Reporting directly to the Site Superintendent, the Lead Hand is responsible for coordinating tasks, managing workflow and proactively addressing any issues that may arise during construction.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervising daily site operations to ensure progress aligns with project timelines and objectives.
- Assigning tasks to crew members based on skill level and project requirements.
- Monitoring work to ensure compliance with industry standards, specifications and safety regulations.
- Assisting in troubleshooting and resolving construction challenges to prevent delays or rework.
- Collaborating closely with the Site Superintendent, subcontractors and other project stakeholders.
- Enforcing health and safety protocols to minimize workplace hazards and ensure a secure job site.
- Providing hands-on training and mentorship to team members, fostering skill development and professional growth.
- Maintaining accurate records of site activities, including daily logs and progress reports.
- Ensuring tools, equipment and materials are used effectively and maintained in good working order.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary education in construction or trades an asset.
- Trade certifications (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc.) are an asset.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on construction experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Valid Occupational Health & Safety certifications (e.g., WHMIS, First Aid, Fall Protection, CSTS, etc.).
- Strong understanding of construction methods and materials.
- Ability to read and understand construction blueprints and specifications.
- Proven ability to lead a team, assign tasks effectively, and communicate clearly with team members.
- Ability to anticipate challenges, provide solutions, and make informed decisions under pressure.
- Ability to perform physical labor, work in various weather conditions and operate construction equipment.
- Familiarity with construction management software, digital reporting tools, and Microsoft Office an asset.

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 18 months
Pay: $28.00-$35.00 per hour
