**Job Description**:
A part-time psychologist is required to offer services to the Chronic Pain service. Services to be provided include social-emotional assessment, psycho-diagnostic assessment, and individual and group education and therapy. The Psychologist will function as part of interdisciplinary teams working in a child centered family-focused environment where parents and caregivers are seen as partners in care.
Principle roles of the psychologist include: Supporting the medical and psychological health and well-being of children and adolescents living with Chronic Pain as well as their families; and the diagnosis and follow-up of psychological problems.
- Provide comprehensive psychological assessment with a focus on diagnostic formulation and delineating the interplay between health and mental health issues.
- Offer consultation and treatment services for patients presenting with chronic pain.
- Individual and group therapy with children and adolescents living with chronic pain. This work can involve therapy (individual, peer-to-peer support), discussion of psychosocial function (stigmatized illness, isolation) and health psychology (coping with chronic illness and pain, medication adherence)
- Psychotherapy with respect to medical adherence and the obstacles thereto as well as self-efficacy
- Trauma work (historical sexual/physical abuse, familial loss)
- Liaison with other health care professionals with regard to assessment findings, recommendations, and their implications for the management of the child/youth.
- Liaise with schools and other community organizations when appropriate
- Prepare adolescents to transition to the adult health care system
- Provide supervision/training of pre-doctoral psychology residents and offer learning opportunities to other student professionals in training
- Assist and collaborate with program evaluation and development of research projects that reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the clinical services provided by the team.
- Collaborate with Psychologists to assist with coverage and backup during vacations and exceptionally busy times
QUALIFICATIONS
- Police Record Check (PRC) (Essential)
- Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from a CPA or APA accredited clinical psychology program (Essential)
- Registration as a Psychologist in Ontario or eligibility for registration as a Psychologist (Essential)
- Designated practice as a psychologist in the area of Clinical Psychology with children and adolescents (Essential)
- Experience in a pediatric health-care setting (Essential)
- Knowledge in Chronic Pain and Rehab model (Essential)
- Experience in the provision of comprehensive psychological assessments to a pediatric population (Essential)
- Experience in providing intervention to children with complex medical and mental health conditions (Essential)
- Training and experience in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance-commitment therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Family therapy (EFFT), DBT (dialectic behavior therapy), or mindfulness (preferred)
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with other health professionals (Essential)
- Bilingual - Fluency in both French and English (preferred)
- Flexibility in work hours (Evening and weekend work may be required) (Essential)
- Interest/expertise in clinical research (preferred)
- Supervision experience (preferred)
