**Volker Stevin Highways Ltd.** is seeking experienced **Highway Maintenance Worker/Operators **for year-round positions in **Sherwood Park, AB working on Northeast Anthony Henday Drive (NEAHD).**

**Please Note: Shop is located in Sherwood Park, Work Site located NE of Anthony Henday**

**What you will be doing**:Under direction of Foreman, this position is skilled to safely operate variety of heavy equipment used in highways maintenance work. Highway Maintenance Worker/Operator is responsible for highway maintenance and bridge equipment operation and maintenance; and will perform labor intensive duties as required, ensuring that Highway Maintenance Program is delivered according to contract specifications.

This job entails all aspects of road maintenance with such duties as, but not limited to: equipment operation/truck driving, physical labor, roadside and highway maintenance functions, sign replacement, guard rail maintenance, flagging, snow plowing and other tasks as assigned. All duties are performed in varying weather conditions.

**Working Environment / Conditions**:
Within a nature of 24/7 operation, the following work conditions are potentially needed to be considered:
**NEAHD Shift**:7 days on / 7 days off

**Winter Conditions**:

- Long hours and days of continuous service.
- Significant shift work, on-call, and night shift work required.
- Poor visibility when plowing.
- Plan and schedule of work shifts and call-ins.
- Work will be performed outdoors in various weather conditions; e.g. extreme cold; ensure preparedness with proper clothing, PPE.
- Deal with traffic on poor road conditions.
- Deal with accidents/emergencies on the highways.

**Summer Conditions**:

- Long hours working on highways.
- Significant shift work, on-call, and night shift work required.
- Work will be performed outdoors in various weather conditions; e.g. extreme heat conditions, windy and rainy conditions; ensure preparedness with proper fluids for hydration, clothing, PPE.
- Deal with high traffic volumes in work zones.

**What you will need to be successful**:

- Valid Class 1 (preferred) or Class 3 driver’s license with air endorsement.
- Clean and valid driver’s abstract.
- Experience in snowplow operation - minimum 50 hours behind the wheel.
- Experience and aptitude for operation and minor maintenance of light, medium, and heavy equipment.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
- Valid Standard First Aid Certificate (preferred).
