Job Purpose
Pedagogical Leader /Registered Early Childhood Educator of Parkview Children’s Centre is a member of the Leadership Team and reports to the Manger of Quality, Capacity and Staff Development.
The Pedagogical Leader will be instrumental in driving a quality program through hands on coaching and mentorship within the classroom environment.
**Responsibilities**:
- Collaborate with Educators to develop, implement and continuously improve the curriculum to meet the educational standards and children’s needs.
- Ensures all classroom Registered Early Childhood Educator responsibilities align with vision, mission, program statement, goals and core concepts of program activities including Reggio-inspired curriculum, Intergenerational Program and Curriculum Outdoors.
- In classroom support by providing hands on coaching to Educators through classroom observations, feedback sessions and co-teaching opportunities.
- Serve as a mentor to new and experienced educators offering guidance on planning as well as CCEYA requirements.
- Point of contact for all sick calls and finding appropriate coverage to maintain ratios.
- Assumes the roles and responsibilities of the School Director in her/his absence.
CHILD DEVELOPMENT, LEARNING AND CARE
- Responsible for the constant supervision, safety and well-being of the children.
- Recognizes and responds to the needs of each child by using developmentally appropriate teaching and child behaviour guidance techniques.
- Shares in the responsibility for planning, preparing and implementing a Reggio-inspired curriculum that is responsive, stimulating and developmentally-appropriate. The curriculum while ensuring activities encourage the four core concepts of “How does learning happen?”, which are belonging, exploration, expression and well-being while promoting each child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development.
- Ensures daily routines incorporate core concepts of “How does learning happen” (belonging, exploration, expression and well-being).
- Assists in the preparation of curriculum plans for intentions of the week and has them approved prior to implementation. These plans will include, but are not limited to, intentions for indoor and outdoor programming, intergenerational program, field trips/walks.
- Ensures the program operates at all times in compliance with all child care licensing standards.
- Must know and implement: Centre routines and practices; Child Care and Early Years Act regulations; Halton Region’s Health Department guidelines.
EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES
- Shares responsibility for maintaining program equipment in good repair; assists with toy/equipment disinfecting.
- Shares responsibility for maintaining the play environments and storage areas in an organized and clutter-free condition.
- Participates in regular fire drills and other emergency procedures.
FAMILY AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS
- Establishes and maintains regular communication with parents.
- Attends and participates actively in all program/centre, parental or other meetings as required.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with program staff of the Long-Term Care facility/senior’s residence.
- Works collaboratively with community partners, such as Children’s Aid, supports for children with differing abilities, Quality First, Program Support Services and other services as required.
PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Provides School Director with an update on staffing coverage on a daily basis.
- Participates fully and consistently as a conscientious team member in caring for the children and in the overall operation of the centre and program; maintains regular and open communication with program team members and all other co-workers.
- Engages in positive collaboration with the other programs and staff of the centre in coordinating the effective use of equipment, facilities and personnel.
- Assists the School Director in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by promptly reporting any existing and/or potential workplace hazards.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Participates in ongoing professional development and attends/maintains all mandatory training.
- Participates in the supervision, training and mentoring of students and supply teachers.
Performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the School Director or her/his designate.
**Qualifications**:
Minimum:
Three years of experience as a Registered Early Childhood Educator.
Early Childhood Education diploma or provincially recognized equivalent.
Registered member of the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario.
Valid Standard First Aid and Level “C” CPR.
Negative criminal records check.
Knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act.
Knowledge of the core concepts related to Reggio-Emilia curriculum, Intergenerational Prog
