The cornerstone of the department’s educational focus is its MA and PhD Graduate Program. Western Economics offers a variety of general and honours Undergraduate Programs and an interdisciplinary professional Master of Financial Economics Program (MFE). **Responsibilities**: The Department Manager is a key member of the Department of Economics leadership team, working closely with the Department Chair, Undergraduate Chair, Graduate Chair and MFE Director. The Department Manager ensures the efficient and effective functioning of administrative, strategic, operational, and financial processes and procedures to achieve the department’s educational and research goals. The role is responsible for overseeing all departmental finances relating both to operating and research funds. As team leader, the Manager guides the staff within the Department to achieve their expected outcomes. This role coordinates many of the Chair's administrative responsibilities and ensures compliance with appropriate collective agreements, Office of Faculty Relations (OFR), Western policies and procedures **Qualifications**: **Education**: - Undergraduate Degree with previous office management and budgeting experience - Working towards a recognized financial/professional designation (e.g. CHRL, CHRP, or CPA) - Completion of a recognized financial/professional designation (e.g. CHRL, CHRP, or CPA) is preferred **Experience**: - 5 years administrative, human resources, and financial experience in a complex office environment - Experience in strategic planning, implementation and operationalization - 3 years leadership experience - Experience in an academic or unionized environment is preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to develop a shared vision to lead and coach employees to excellence. - Results-oriented with the ability to motivate and coach employees to meet high performance standards, while working effectively as a member of the leadership team. - Demonstrated advanced judgment, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and opportunities. - Critical thinking and discernment to assess and scope areas for improvement and an ability to offer creative solutions. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence dealing with all levels of an organization with the ability to converse with, write reports for, and deliver presentations. - Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook). - Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments in the above MS software packages, as well as other software that is relevant to the position. - Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development. - Ability to analyze data to draft budget proposals, forecast expenses, and monitor relevant accounts. - In-depth knowledge of financial budgeting, analysis and principles, Human Resource principles and practices, collective agreement language and interpretation, Employment Standards Act and other relevant legislation. - Demonstrated knowledge of financial budgeting, analysis and principles, Human Resource principles and practices, collective agreement language and interpretation, Employment Standards Act and other relevant legislation. - Working knowledge of University policies and procedures preferred. - Proven ability and natural inclination to interact with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner. Strict sense of confidentiality. - Ability to understand customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service directly and indirectly to satisfy expectations. - Proven ability to take initiative and in-depth knowledge of how to champion a project from conception through implementation and evaluation. - Ability to handle diverse situations, multiple projects, and rapidly changing priorities. - Experience in PeopleSoft HR and Finance, or other management/accounting software is preferred. - Proven self-driven, independent thinker who is highly motivated and possesses an intrinsic passio
