**About the Organization**
Labour Community Services of Peel (LCSP) is a project of the Peel Regional Labour Council and a member agency of United Way of Peel Region. LCSP will provide advocacy, referral, and education in the areas of Government income security programs, Employment Rights, and Human Rights to residents of Peel Region. Our key strategies are legal services, legal education, community development and outreach, and law reform. The Community Outreach Worker position is designated for an equity-seeking community member with lived experience of precarious work. The role will report directly to the Service Director and support LCSP’s community outreach, law reform efforts, and meetings and events with community members. The Community Outreach Worker will be given extensive training and support to develop leadership skills and confidence to engage in systemic advocacy and community organizing from an anti-racist and anti-oppressive framework.
**Community Outreach and Law Reform**
- Community outreach including; handing out flyers, leaflets, posters, and more to provide community members legal information related to their rights at work, LCSP’s services, or upcoming meetings and events;
- Maintaining contact lists of community members, organizations and media related to community organizing efforts;
- Speaking with stakeholders such as Members of Parliament, media, and/or other related organizations;
- Outreach to inform the public of LCSP’s services, including through radio, print media, and social media;
- Meet with workers to provide information, training, and workshops related to relevant laws and programs, law reform, advocacy, and community organizing;
- Facilitate meetings and workshops to encourage leadership and input from community members, help create inclusive spaces, and build knowledge and skills of community members to advocate for themselves;
- Help facilitate and support community organizing, and law reform efforts based on community members’ input on how to reduce barriers to justice.
**Meetings and Events**
- Gathering and preparing materials;
- Helping with set-up and clean-up;
- Assisting with registration, facilitation and note-taking;
- Assisting workers with filling out forms;
- Assisting with delivery of the Know Your Rights Workshops and other trainings.
**Qualifications**
- Be a member of an equity seeking group;
- Experience working in employment sector identified as having high rates of labour violations and/or have strong ties to community members in those sectors;
- Knowledge of a second language is an asset;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Excellent organizational and time management skill.
