This position is responsible for the review, development, implementation and operation of the intramural sport, recreation and outdoor sports programs. As a member of the Recreation Services team, the Coordinator, Sports Programs and Intramurals supports the overall development, delivery, and evaluation of recreation programs, services, and events that foster active and healthy living, social connection, campus community engagement, and student learning, development, and success. This position is responsible for the operations of the gymnasium, sports field and related facilities on the Burnaby campus. This position works closely with all Recreation Coordinators on developing and marketing Recreation Services, supervising Recreation Services Assistants and student staff, and participating as an integral member of the Recreation Services team.**Duties & Responsibilities**

- Researches, develops, promotes, organizes, coordinates and evaluates recreation sport programs and activities including intramural sports, drop-in sports, outdoor recreation, groups, tournaments and special events to meet the needs of a diverse group of students, staff and public customers with varying levels of skills and fitness.
- Supports the department’s strategic plan and continuous quality improvement to ensure the provision of relevant and high quality recreation programs and services.
- Works collaboratively with other campus groups to develop and operate programs and promote participation, engagement, education and support for healthy and active lifestyles.
- Responsible for the administration, oversight and sport programs in the gymnasium, interior and exterior courts, and outdoors on the sports field and the running track, and for the daily supervision of these facilities on the Burnaby campus.
- Leads in the recruitment, selection and training of intramural sports and other sport program staff including officials, referees and equipment handlers. Provides input to the performance evaluations of employees and contracted staff.
- Works collaboratively with the Events and Community Engagement Coordinator with the development, implementation, promotion and assessment of camp programs.
- Works collaboratively with the Events and Community Engagement Coordinator on recruitment, training and supervision of camp staff.
- Ensures the gymnasium, interior and exterior courts, the sports field, running track and related areas are maintained in a safe and efficient operating condition at all times; conducting regular safety and maintenance inspections to ensure risk management and liability precautions are in place, and as an employee of the department ensures the safe operation of all recreation centre facilities and services.
- Ensures participants are using equipment and the facilities in a safe and correct manner; demonstrates correct use as needed and instructs other department staff what to be aware of when the Coordinator, Sports Programs and Intramurals is not on duty.
- Develops and maintains policies, procedures and rules related to all sport programs and intramurals including conduct and behaviour expectations, team contracts, team registration and as well as risk and liability waivers; ensuring these are consistent with BCIT’s Student Conduct policies and ensures they are reviewed and updated on a regular basis.
- Fosters a culture of conflict de-escalation through delivery of related training for recreation and intramural staff.
- Facilitates incident investigations by conducting player, participant and team meetings. Determines and implements appropriate sanctions including temporary and permanent suspensions. Prepares reports and keeps records in accordance with BCIT policy. Refers appeals to Operations Coordinator as necessary.
- Responsible for oversight of equipment and infrastructure related to operations of the gymnasium, courts and outdoor facilities including inventory management, coordinating repairs and maintenance and ensuring completion in a timely manner. Liaises and coordinates with vendors and repair companies.
- Provides input to design and refurbishing of the recreation facilities.
- Works with the Operations Coordinator on the purchase of new equipment. Researches new equipment options and provides recommendations on specifications to meet industry current standards and best practices.
- Provides leadership in customer service excellence and promotes friendly and positive relationships with all clientele.
- Monitors and reports enrolment and participation statistics, and in collaboration with the Operations Coordinator ensures programs are financially viable.
- Makes recommendations for increased participation and revenue opportunities through cost effectiveness and innovation.
- Assists the Operat
