**Summary**
The Technical and Safety Specialist is responsible for maintaining all aspects of safety for the Superfly Ziplines (SF) and Aerial Obstacle Course (AOC) operations at the Cougar Mountain Site, as well as providing input on the technology used in both activities in the pursuit of the safest, simplest and most enjoyable experience for our guests and staff. The Technical and Safety Specialist’s primary role is to maintain and repair activity equipment and infrastructure to the highest standard ensuring that daily activities can operate seamlessly. This includes ensuring there is the correct inventory of PPE for guests and guides. The Technical and Safety Specialist should have a good understanding of what each TAG team needs to assist the Leadership Team and employees in their roles. He/She/They will provide support as needed for other areas of the organization including but not limited to; SF and AOC training, guiding on SF, AOC and Mechanized activities once signed off.
**Responsibilities and Deliverables**:
- Lead maintenance of the Superfly Zipline, Aerial Obstacle Course (AOC) and equipment.
- Repairing Specialized Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) such as trolleys, harnesses, and helmets.
- Being able to recognize any defects or destructive breaks in any PPE used by TAG and perform the appropriate repairs and or actions required.
- Performing maintenance and inspections using Single rope Techniques (SRT).
- Lead and supervise the daily, monthly, and annual inspections of all Personal Protection Equipment and infrastructure on site of which many need SRT skills to access.
- Have a strong understanding of SRT skills, including ascending, traversing, and descending.
- Have an extensive knowledge of life bearing rigging and anchors allowing for ropes access to be able to take place safely.
- Responsible for the installation of new anchors and safety lines on the Superfly Zipline and the AOC course.
- Have a strong understanding and knowledge of pulley, haulage and blocking systems for use in rescue, maintenance, and installation procedures.
- Have the ability to lead and control in technical rescues within the Superfly Zipline and AOC courses.
- Have a minimum of 80hr First Aid Certification and be able to respond effectively to any First Aid incidents including but not limited to safely rescuing injured guests from
height on the Superfly Ziplines and AOC.
- Be able to use technical rescue equipment and SRT skills in a high-pressure environment.
- Provide training to Superfly Zipline and AOC Guides in single rope rescue techniques as a requirement of their roles.
- Provide training, coaching, and mentoring for new Technical Maintenance Assistants.
- Provide training and mentoring for TAG Staff on rescue systems such as use of the Cascade Glider and Z drag systems.
- Ensuring the maintenance workshop and other areas are kept clean and tidy.
- Work alongside any TAG contractors and aiding them wherever needed on projects.
- Ensuring adherence to all government statues, laws, bylaws, and permit restrictions and representing the company well to any official representatives of these agencies.
- Ensure the proper upkeep of all maintenance and inspection logs
**Key Attributes**:
- Minimum 2-years of experience in tourism, adventure tourism and/or activity operational delivery is preferred
- In depth knowledge of both operational and maintenance aspects of SF and AOC
- Ability to build and sustain strong working relationships within and outside of TAG
- Always be professional, reliable and flexible
- Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to details and organized approach to tasks
- Proven ability to communicate clearly - ensuring clear instructions and information is shared with all parties in a timely manner
- Be physically fit: able to lift up to 30lbs, be outdoors and on feet for majority of day in variable weather conditions, high degree of mobility, able to use both hands
for physical work and be within physical limitations of the activity requirements
**Desirable Qualifications**:
- 80 hour Outdoor First Aid certification preferred
- Valid Driver’s License
- Fall protection / Rope Access training
- Basic OH+S training
