**RADIATION ONCOLOGIST (NOC 3111)**
**DEPARTMENT OF RADIATION ONCOLOGY
**CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB) provides comprehensive oncology services for the province of
Manitoba and adjacent areas of Northwestern Ontario and Nunavut. Approximately 3500 new
patients are seen annually by the Radiation Oncology Program.
**Position and Term of Employment**:
We are seeking a permanent, full time Academic Radiation Oncologist to work within a multi
- disciplinary, disease site group model of care.
**About the position/location of work:
**The Department of Radiation Oncology and CCMB Radiation Oncology Program reside in a state
- of-the-art clinical outpatient and cancer research facility in Winnipeg on the Bio-Medical campus
time will be spent at this facility.
Equipment includes 7 Varian linear accelerators, dedicated high dose-rate and prostate
brachytherapy suites, 2 simulators and a new orthovoltage unit. RapidArcTM and Stereotactic
Ablative Body Radiotherapy techniques are in use, with the latter being further developed in
partnership with Shared Health’s Surgery Program with recent instillation of EDGE machine. A
Gamma Knife PerfexionTM is located in and managed jointly with the adjacent host hospital, the
Health Sciences Centre. PET-CT is available, with a cyclotron on site. A dedicated 6 bed inpatient
unit is also located in the host hospital.
The Western Manitoba Cancer Centre, located in Brandon MB, is jointly managed by CCMB and
the Prairie Mountain Health Authority and has one matched Varian linear accelerator. Most
chemotherapy services are offered there. One Radiation Oncologist is located permanently at this
working time will be spent at this facility.
**Job Duties**:
1. Diagnosis and care of patients with malignant disease. Order necessary laboratory tests,
X-rays and other diagnostic procedures
2. Becoming integrally involved in the formulation and execution of the management plan
ionizing radiations to cancer treatment.
3. Using an evidence-based approach, responsible for the appropriate recommendation,
prescription and supervision of therapeutic ionizing radiation.

4. Practice in a multidisciplinary fashion in close collaboration with general and
subspecialty surgeons, medical and gynecological oncologists. Ambulatory patient care is
the norm.

**Remuneration:
place in the province of Manitoba for physicians. Earnings funded by fees for service and CCMB
top-up are as follows:
- 70% of Professional Maximum is paid through CCMB Payroll.
- 30% of Professional Maximum is paid through semi-monthly UMG draws paid from Fee
for Service collected. Earnings are reconciled on a calendar year basis and a statement of
earnings is provided by University Medical Group.
- Up to 5% retention fund is paid through University Medical Group special draw in the
year after it is earned.
- On-call is paid monthly through University Medical Group in the month after the on-call
services are provided

Radiation Oncologists hold privileges at Winnipeg teaching hospitals through the Shared Health
and are appointed to the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Medicine. Together with the
University of Manitoba, CCMB manages a successful Royal College accredited Postgraduate
(residency) program for Radiation Oncology. The Department of Radiation Oncology is
committed to excellence in care, and wishes to further develop academic/research strength,
working closely with Medical Physics, Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Epidemiology and
other areas within and outside of CCMB. The Manitoba Institute of Cell Biology is located within
CCMB, and provides an excellent opportunity for collaborative research especially for this
Radiation Oncology position.
