**ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE**

This role reports to the Research and Partners Manager, Applied Genomics Centre.

**SUMMARY**

The Student Assistant - Media and Outreach has a supportive role for the outreach goals of the Applied Genomics Centre (AGC). This employment role will have learning opportunities and practical training to the individual while they are enrolled as a student at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. This individual will support the promotion of applied research projects at the AGC under the supervision and direction of the Director, Research Administrative Assistant, and AGC’s senior leadership. They will assist in increasing the Centre’s social media and outreach activities.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

Provide marketing support for the AGC’s Director, senior leadership, and research staff:

- Assist in creating and scheduling posts for the Centre’s website and social media platforms.
- Develop content ideas to promote the Centre’s research and initiatives.
- Engage with the admin and research staff to help boost our online presence.
- Help analyze social media performance and suggest improvements.
- Support outreach efforts to build awareness of the Centre’s activities.
- Assist in creating outreach materials and other promotional content in the forms of written articles, video, photography and digital art.
- Other duties as assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Currently enrolled in an appropriate academic program at KPU.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and trends.
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn new skills.
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written English language skills.
- Detail oriented, with excellent organizational and time management skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
- Creative mindset and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to use office technologies effectively and to adapt to new technologies that may be introduced.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a team.
- Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of cultural environments; and readiness to adopt the working culture (timekeeping, time management, collegiality, mutual respect, etc.) of the Applied Genomics Centre.
- **Salary Information**

Student Assistants are paid as per the following:

- Less than one year of post-secondary (less than 30 credits) - BC Minimum Wage
- One year of post-secondary (30-60 credits) - BC Minimum Wage plus 8%
- With a post-secondary diploma or degree - BC Minimum Wage plus 21%
