**The opportunity**:
The University of Manitoba is looking for a Lead Research Coordinator. This position will be responsible for supervising the work of the Research Assistants. The Lead Research Coordinator will participate in the communication and engagement strategy under the guidance of the Community Engagement Coordinator.
They will be responsible for coordinating research on the NCTR Archives records for the purpose of finding evidence of missing children and unmarked burial sites. Building on Phases I-III of the Project, the Research Coordinator will ensure that archival research is done in an ordered, thorough, and timely manner, and that the research results are documented in a transparent, accountable, and ongoing process.
Additionally, this role will ensure that the research milestones are met and keeps an ongoing account of progress for the purpose of updating senior management, and providing interim reports for funding entities, Indigenous communities, and public inquiries. The Lead Research Coordinator will work with relevant supervisors to compile reports for communities.
**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:
PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO INDIGENOUS CANDIDATES. APPLICANTS MUST SELF-DECLARE ON THEIR COVER LETTER OR RESUME AS INDIGENOUS (FIRST NATIONS, MÉTIS, AND/OR INUIT).
- Master's level or professional degree is required in a related discipline required.
- Class 5 Driver's license is an asset.
- At least five years of relevant experience in university, community, government, Indigenous, private sector or professional administration including at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisor role required.
- Previous experience working with Survivors, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, or Indigenous communities/organizations is required.
- Track record of success in developing, reviewing, and implementing proposals for potential projects and programs required.
- Research experience is required; research with Indigenous communities and Indigenous methodologies is highly desirable.
- Experience in using archival databases for the purpose of research is required.
- Experience in using large data sets to narrow down searches and make decisions on the accuracy of research is required.
- Experience supervising research staff, administrative personnel, or cross-functional teams in sensitive or emotionally complex work environments is required.
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures are an asset.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Competencies with Indigenous cultural awareness, knowledge, and protocols are required.
- Must be able to work within time and budget constraints.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills required.
- Superior organizational skills required.
- Superior writing and editing skills required.
- Competency with word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint presentations and online meeting software required.
- Ability to conduct research independently required.
- Ability to plan, organize and administer projects required.
- Must be able to work within time and budget constraints.
- Ability to train and to supervise the work of staff and students required.
- Strong critical thinking skills, with a demonstrated ability to make sound independent judgments, and take initiative required.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to co-ordinate workflow, prioritize work and handle multiple tasks at the same time required.
- Ability to receive feedback, take and give direction and seek clarification as necessary is required.
- Excellent ability to anticipate and resolve problems required.
- Ability to interact with individuals and groups in social, political, professional, NGO and educational environments required.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment required.
- Aptitude for learning new software.
- Ability to perform all duties in a professional and diplomatic manner, and able to maintain confidentiality is required.
- Ability to identify procedures and processes requiring improvement and recommend, develop, and implement modifications to improve efficiency required.
