**About the Facilities Management Department**:
Mount Royal University’s Facilities Management department is responsible for the planning, development, construction, design, operation, maintenance, safety, security and stewardship of all the buildings, infrastructure, sites and services within Mount Royal's campus community. Through efficient and environmentally sustainable operation, we offer grounds, custodial, building operations, facilities planning, security services and engineering professional services to provide a physical environment that supports and enhances our academic space for students and staff. Our team of professionals are dedicated to providing customer service excellence. Our staff respond to daily service requests and emergency/ priority situations as needed.

**About the Role**:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Mechanical, the Plumber performs work essential to the ongoing operation and maintenance of the University’s base building Plumbing systems. Work is performed under mínimal supervision.

This position is a part of the MRSA Collective Bargaining Unit. The normal shift is 7.5 hours per day, five days per week, usually Monday to Friday, however, transfer to other shifts, with notice, is a possibility. Overtime may be required, and the incumbent might be expected to be on Standby. Callouts to the campus can be expected during emergencies.

The Plumber functions within applicable legislation, regulations, policies, guidelines, and standards.

**Responsibility 1 (40%): Support of Plumbing Systems and Equipment**:

- Completes plumbing system and equipment requests as assigned by the Supervisor;
- Responds to urgent issues, assesses and repairs base building plumbing systems;
- Responsible for troubleshooting plumbing systems and all related equipment including plumbing fixtures, domestic water, sanitary waste, rain water drainage, and other plumbing systems such as backflow prevention, fire suppression, gas distribution, interceptors, pool equipment, and fountain piping and devices;
- Troubleshoots the operation and functionality of plumbing systems and equipment and performs maintenance in accordance with industry best practices, guidelines and standards;
- Installs new plumbing equipment when required;
- Replaces deteriorated or obsolete plumbing equipment and repairs equipment having residual life with new parts as required;
- Reads and interprets drawings, specifications, circuit diagrams and code regulations;
- Notifies the Supervisor of unusual equipment conditions and recommends corrective actions;
- Provides related services associated with University events as required;
- Displays initiative, judgement, and personal direction when carrying out responsibilities as work is performed under mínimal supervision;
- Must be able to coordinate work with other trades as necessary, prioritize and respond to work orders appropriately, anticipate potential issues, and provide solutions within established standards and procedures to avoid problems and delays in relation to services provided.

**Responsibility 2 (40%): Preventative Maintenance Program**:

- Performs preventative maintenance inspections and repairs as per assigned schedules;
- Assists with Code on-site inspections and correcting deficiencies;
- Supports leadership and colleagues in determining preventative maintenance schedules and procedures as per manufacturer's recommendations, industry best practices, guidelines and standards.

**Responsibility 3 (20%): Support of Facilities Management**:

- Under direction of the Supervisor, supports the project management department in scoping plumbing related system work for potential projects and future capital planning upgrades;
- Investigates the impact and necessary procedures to safely shut-down/start-up plumbing systems for the project management department, contractors and/or co-workers;
- Performs data collection on plumbing systems and equipment to support asset management;
- Supports maintaining single line diagrams, master drawings, legend and schedules;
- Participates in the effective use of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (Archibus) in completing work requests and preventative maintenance assigned work.

**Other related duties as assigned.**

**Qualifications**:

- Plumber - Certified Journeyperson and/or a Red Seal Endorsement issued in Alberta;
- Gasfitter - Class B Journeyperson Certificate;
- Cross Connection Control Specialist Certificate with a current American Water Works Association (AWWA) Backflow Tester’s Certificate from Western Canada Section (WCS) AWWA;
- A Gasfitter - Class A Journeyperson Certificate would be an asset;
- Minimum of 5-8 years of experience is required;
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with base building plumbing system practices, techniques, tools, test equipment, and safety procedures;
