Museum Facilitator

Under the supervision of the Head, Education, Community Engagement and Cultural Programs, the incumbent conducts activities and programs to display the collections of the McCord Stewart Museum. Educational, community and cultural programs are designed to target a variety of audiences, including school groups, day camps, specialized interest groups, families, tourists and community groups.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

**Overview of Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Facilitate educational, cultural and community engagement programs to the visiting groups and facilitate workshops in situ ,or outside walls (outdoor or in schools) or in virtual;
- Ensure the reception of the visiting groups and supervision of general public visits to exhibition areas or virtual platforms;
- Take over the visiting group from the arrival to the departure;
- Participate in the fabrication, setup and maintenance of educational materials and tools used for mediation activities, inform the department Team leader of any breakage, malfunction or need for materials; Prepare facilities and equipment for activities;
- Assist in the logístical coordination of guided tours and workshops: hosting of groups and orientations, itineraries, planning of visits and management of the educational collection;
- Act as an resource person for the presentation of the department’s programs, as required
- Assist the public on individual visits and provide mediation in the exhibition rooms;
- Physically monitor the site and work in cooperation with the security team to supervise visitors;
- If needed, assist in the preparation of the training program for cultural mediators and volunteers.

**In order to maintain the quality of services offered to the public, the Museum Facilitator is expected to**:

- Acquire knowledge about exhibitions, educational programs and participatory approaches through training and any other educational tools provided by the department of Education, Community Engagement and Cultural Programs;
- Attend training sessions on various topics related to the Museum programs (mandatory attendance and paid, usually on Mondays);
- Master a variety of interpretation techniques including participatory approaches;
- Master the documentation provided by the Museum on different types of clientele in order meet the needs of these audiences;
- Diversify facilitation and mediation approaches based on audiences;
- Appropriate additional documentation provided by the Museum on current exhibitions and other relevant sources;

**Employment Conditions**
- Part-time unionized position, be available for a minimum of 12 hours per week;
- Variable work schedule, including weekends and Wednesday evenings;
- Hourly rate of entry position: $22,93;
- Starting date: as soon as possible.

**Qualifications and Profile Required**
- Fluency in both English and French; knowledge of a third language would be an asset;
- Sound knowledge of Montreal and Canadian history, and Indigenous cultures and current social issues;
- Sensitivity to cultural diversity;
- Engaging presence and excellent communication skills;
- Creativity, dynamism and team spirit;
- Willingness to learn;
- Punctuality, strong sense of responsibility and
- Familiar with digital environments and tools;
- Commitment to sustainability.
