CAYR Community Connections (CAYR) is a community-based organization that provides support, education, and access to dignified care for people living with, affected by, and at risk of HIV/AIDS.
The Women’s Health Program Coordinator position seeks to build local community capacity in
York Region to respond to women’s HIV/AIDS prevention needs, and to improve the quality of life for women living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Community Development _
- Identifies and builds relationships with local community organizations, key stakeholder groups and community alliances that serve women in York Region.
- Develops strategic partnerships with HIV specialists, primary care providers, public health, mental health and addiction service providers, and alternate wellness and therapy providers in York Region to enhance treatment access and retention in care for women impacted by and at-risk of HIV/AIDS.
- Participates in local community planning initiatives related to women’s issues and promote integration of HIV/AIDS into programs, services, and policies-procedure.
- Acts as a liaison between CAYR and local community organizations in advancing women and HIV prevention initiatives.
- Initiate and participate in public speaking opportunities to promote CAYR’s mission, programs and services and philosophical approaches to community-based work.
- Represent the agency at local and provincial networks to advance the Ontario Women and HIV Prevention Initiative.
- Community Education & Training _
- Identifies the needs of women in the designated geographic area and conducts targeted outreach and intervention activities to at-risk populations.
- Develops educational training and workshop modules with evaluative component.
- Delivers educational training and workshop modules to targeted communities, local agencies and groups that serve women, with the aim of increasing their capacity to integrate HIV/AIDS prevention services.
- Build capacity of diverse health, wellness and social service providers in York Region on a broad range of HIV-related issues impacting women, including institutional stigma and discrimination, safer sex, safer drug use, and HIV prevention to foster a service delivery environment that is women
- and family-centered, inclusive, harm reduction based, and trauma-informed.
- Evaluates and modifies training modules and workshops to ensure the goals of the program are achieved and the needs of those requesting training are met.
- Research & Program Evaluation _
- Gathers and documents accurate data to complete reports required by funders.
- Prepare administrative and program reports for the Board, funders, and other bodies.
- Monitors and evaluates program and project activities to ensure optimal quality of service delivery to local communities by way of service user and service provider surveys.
- Identifies and responds to emerging issues related to HIV/AIDS and women’s health by engaging in community-based research and/or needs assessments, as required.
- Resource Development & Distribution _
- Maintains and distributes current resource materials and other HIV prevention tools to community partners, as required.
- Develops resources as required.
- Identifies and seeks funding and/or community resources to meet specific needs of the community.
- Peer Programs & Engagement: _
- Recruits and engages women living with, at-risk of or impacted by HIV/AIDS in Peer
Advisory Committees (PACs) to inform and support women’s health program goals and activities.
- Coordinates and implements health and wellness-based activities for HIV positive women in collaboration with the program staff and PAC members.
- Administration _
- Maintains monthly statistics.
- Complies with organizational policies and procedures.
- Other Duties _
- Supervises placement students and student research assistants engaged in program and project activities.
- Advances the values, principles, and priorities of related provincial strategies, including the _Strategy on HIV/AIDS for African and Caribbean Communities in Ontario _and the
- Ontario Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Strateg_y, as appropriate.
- Respond to requests to provide consultation and advice to local community agencies’ clients living with or affected by HIV/AIDS and facilitate linkages with CAYR and AIDS
Service Organizations in neighbouring regions.
- Participate as an active member of staff teams, including participation in program planning, coordination, and collaboration with other staff.
- Performs other tasks, as assigned by Management.
