As a Yard Supervisor, you will lead the Bongard yard teams (Precast, Landscape and Masonry divisions) ensuring efficient operations through collaboration, respect, and accountability. Focusing on logistics, quality, safety, and team well-being, you will foster a culture of operational excellence.
Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be a key member of the leadership team, providing clear direction and support to yard crew, forklift operators, and other team members. With strong communication and teamwork, you will ensure smooth yard operations while maintaining the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and service.
**Responsibilities**
- Lead and support yard employees, fostering respect, collaboration, and a positive, customer-focused mindset to inspire teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Assign tasks based on skills, promoting efficiency, growth, and motivation within the team.
- Conduct training and performance evaluations to develop a high performing, engaged team.
- Maintain records of attendance, safety compliance, and performance, ensuring accountability.
- Build collaborative relationships with employees, union representatives, and stakeholders, encouraging open communication.
- Align operations with dispatch, sales, production, maintenance, and QC teams to meet shipping schedules and quality standards.
- Communicate with customers professionally, ensuring their needs are met efficiently and with care.
- Proactively address customer concerns, delivering solutions with empathy and a positive approach.
- Oversee shipping, receiving, and material movement for timely, accurate, and efficient operations.
- Collaborate with inventory manager to optimize stock levels, storage, and handling.
- Conduct regular quality checks, addressing challenges and improving workflow to maintain high service levels.
- Ensure consistency in yard operations by upholding QMS standards and continuous improvement.
- Inspect precast products before shipping, addressing quality concerns to exceed customer expectations.
- Enforce safety protocols, ensuring compliance with WSIB regulations and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Inspect equipment, ensure maintenance, and emphasize safety in all operations.
- Lead by example in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized yard environment.
**Specific Experience**:
- Proven track record of success in managing logistics schedules, reducing waste, and improving efficiency, demonstrating your passion for continuous improvement.
- Managing in a unionized environment is considered an asset, showing your ability to lead diverse teams effectively.
- Knowledge around WSIB, Health & Safety and industry regulations
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and support a team through collaboration and mutual respect.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software, with the ability to plan and organize tasks efficiently.
- Ability to work in a noisy environment.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and follow specified procedures
- Self-starter, with excellent work ethic
- Always maintain a professional attitude, especially when handling stressful situations
- Strong team player with a positive attitude
- Working within physically demanding, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling environments
**Requirements**:
- Proven experience in a supervisory role within a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical knowledge and experience operating heavy equipment.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting as required by the job.
- Familiarity with manufacturing/yard distribution processes and logistics.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to lead a team effectively.
- Valid forklift certification & crane operation experience is an asset.
