**PURPOSE and SCOPE**:
Overall management of the Quality Lab including supervision and technical guidance of staff, development and execution of inspection operations and metallurgical testing, calibration and maintenance of inspection equipment, as well as support of R&D initiatives/projects.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**The following are the main job responsibilities and priorities for this position**:

- Supervision and technical guidance of Quality Lab Technicians.
- Ensure that the lab work environment is safe and maintain compliance to all health and safety regulations. Work with the safety department to ensure that the staff are trained as necessary to perform their required tasks safely.
- Estimate and provide workload for the current year and following year, ensuring that the workload and staffing balance is adequate.
- Estimate and provide capacity studies of the lab equipment according to workload forecast.
- Estimate the cost of yearly calibration of equipment and timely submit purchase requisitions for calibration services to ensure high equipment availability to perform requested services.
- Organize and supervise calibration tasks, 5S and safety review of the lab.
- Monitor, improve, and ensure the effectiveness of lab performance through relevant KPI.
- Development, maintenance and enhancement of lab work instructions and best practices.
- Operate and program lab equipment for conformance verification of components and materials.
- Timely execute and report results for all submitted inspection request forms (IRF).
- Make recommendations for improvements in design or manufacturing process as the inspection results indicate.
- Work closely with the MacDon Metallurgist to support failure analysis and material characterization and identify necessary tools and equipment to enhance the lab capabilities in support of new product development.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Education and Experience**
- Post-secondary diploma/degree in a technical field from a recognized/accredited institution or equivalent years of experience
- Applied experience in the operation and maintenance of lab equipment including: CMM programming and operation, Laser Tracker, Faro-Arm, Hardness testers, Metallurgical Microscope and Micro-sectioning equipment

**Skills and Knowledge**
- Good communication skills both verbal and written.
- Solid understanding of GD&T.
- Familiar with modern manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Knowledge of First Article Inspection methods.
- Good math skills.
- Blueprint reading.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Experience with various raw materials (castings, steel, plastics etc.).
