**Position Summary**
Reporting to Manager, Employment and Settlement Services, the Community Settlement Worker will be facilitating the social, cultural, economic and political integration of newcomer and immigrant individuals in Toronto into the local and wider community. The Community Settlement Worker will be required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with Dixon Hall’s Mission, Vision and Values, ensure safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
Needs Assessment and Referral
- Conduct individual, generic settlement needs assessment for newcomer and immigrant clients.
- Make appropriate and timely referrals to CIC funded and community settlement services and to other community services such as housing, education, health, social services; employment services (including Dixon Hall services (i.e. DH Employment Services Centre); support clients to attend arranged meetings.
- Develop individual settlement action plans with clients, including goals for the settlement process.
- Provide case management for individual clients and liaise with referral agencies.
- Link and connect newcomers to the informal and formal network of local and broader settlement services.
- Keep up-to-date on settlement and community resources and issues affecting newcomer and immigrant women.
- Maintain accurate program records and statistics and prepare required reports.
- Assist with interpretation and relevant translations as needed.
Community Partnership
- Plan, market and facilitate workshops and activities that broaden the participants’ social and professional networks.
- Facilitate and support participants to plan and lead activities including conversation circles that support English learning needs.
- Connect with the existing culturally specific groups in the local community and bring groups together through facilitated and peer led workshops/activities and conversation circles.
- Support the participants in developing their capacity to take responsibility for the activities and topics in conversation circles.
- Reach out to other community partners, residents and members of the business sector; design and develop presentations/forums on settlement needs and experiences.
- Develop volunteer/mentorship opportunities for community members to provide support to newcomer and immigrant clients in becoming less isolated and more fully involved in civic participation.
- Represent the agency as required at Local Integration Partnership (LIP) meetings and other relevant community agency meetings/events.
Support Services
- Link clients with any available resources in order to enable attendance at individual needs assessment, referral appointments, workshops/activities, settlement programs, networking, mentoring sessions.
- Provide TTC tokens to participants who require return trips to attend settlement programs, mentoring sessions, community services etc. and reconcile the related financial account.
Organizational Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with manager and other Dixon Hall staff and volunteers.
- Actively participate in department and agency meetings and events.
- Work under the guidance of the agency and program policies and procedures, including the Mission, Vision and Values of Dixon Hall.
- Meet regularly with manager to discuss the individual, team and settlement services effectiveness.
- Other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
- Post-Secondary education in Social Services, Gerontology or a related field.
- Three to four years direct experience working with newcomers and immigrants towards their settlement process.
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of issues facing newcomers and immigrant clients.
- Experience with casework process, including eligibility and needs assessments, referrals, case management and follow-up.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver workshops/educational forums; assess and evaluate various programs/activities and develop appropriate evaluation tools.
- Familiar with immigration, settlement and social services in the City of Toronto and experienced in working in collaboration with other community organizations.
- Experienced in working in multicultural settings with staff, clients and volunteers who are from different ethno-racial backgrounds.
- Strong verbal and written English language communication skills; fluency in other languages will be considered an asset.
- Ability to effectively communicate in Mandarin.
- Willingness to work flexible schedules, including evenings and occasionally weekends.
- Certificates in First Aid, CPR, Crisis Prevention and Intervention an asset.
- Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.
