Victim/witness Services Worker

**Responsibilities** - To report to the Manager of WECAPP/CVW, or coverage Manager, or the Executive Director - To be a member of the CVW team inclusive of staff and volunteers - To bring empathetic communication skills and understanding of complex case management, needs assessment, emotional support, and client advocacy to a dedicated team as we support victims and witnesses of crimes while they participate in the criminal court process - To inform clients about their case, victim’s rights, and what they need to know and can expect during the criminal court process - Navigating the court process alongside your client to educate and help them understand their role in the criminal justice system - Providing emotional support and crisis intervention to vulnerable clients through a trauma-informed and victim-centered lens, including assessing risks and needs - Maintaining relationships with criminal justice parties and community agencies to advocate on behalf of clients. Documenting throughout the case management process to create timely and accurate case notes - Participating in projects to review services, committees to collaborate and build relationships, and public education activities to promote the program - Support marginalized and vulnerable clients who are victims or witnesses of crimes, including but not limited to intimate partner violence, child abuse, and homicide - Identify risks to clients, develop case plans, and make appropriate referrals both internally & externally - Support clients from diverse communities and be sensitive to their needs - Write reports and case file summaries - Develop and deliver training programs and public education sessions - Complete capacity assessments, intakes, questionnaires, program-specific assessments, and/or standardized psychometric tests - Attend court to provide support to the victim or witness as required **Qualifications** - Bachelor of Social Work from a recognized University and registered with the College of Social Work is required. - Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with children and youth exposed to trauma, abuse, or violence - Previous experience in settings such as Victim/Witness Assistance Programs, Child Protection Services, Counselling, or Trauma-Informed care settings - Demonstrated familiarity with court processes, the legal system, and case management - Strong communication to explain legal processes in age-appropriate and trauma-sensitive ways - Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation, criminal justice processes, and community resources - The ability to form positive relationships with children, youth, and families is essential. - Excellent oral and written communications, written case notes that may be used in criminal court proceedings and used by other legal professionals and community partners - Fluency in the French language (written and spoken) is an asset - Police Record Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Screening are required. Before working directly with clients, NVCI, CPR, First Aid Certificate, immunization record, medical and a valid Ontario Class "G" driver’s license, and Clean Driver’s Abstract are required.
