Reporting to the Coordinator, Recreation, this part-time position is responsible for the planning and instruction of quality preschool and children’s programs while ensuring that all activities are safe, fun, and appropriate for the targeted age group and expectation of the department.
**Major Job Responsibilities**
- Work with the Coordinator, Recreation to develop structured programs that meet the needs of participants
- Provide lesson plans, materials list, regular updates and feedback to immediate supervisor; modify lesson plans as necessary based on program participant needs
- Facilitate an activity and/or demonstration of an assigned topic at each class
- Provide sufficient time for participants to work independently and provide one-on-one assistance when required
- Proactively communicate program needs and updates to applicable staff and communicate any facility or equipment concerns to Supervisor
- Receive all parent/participant (as applicable based on programming) concerns and communicate concerns or incidents to Supervisor
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and handle sensitive situations with mature judgement
- Maintain a safe and clean facility including proper storage and use of equipment
- Evaluate situations for potential risks and proactively take action to address such risks; communicate any action or concerns to supervisor
- Report any incidents, to the supervisor, ensuring all appropriate forms are filled out accurately and completed
- Establish positive relationships and clear communication channels with all staff, parents/guardians and participants
- Provide guidance and oversight of volunteers
- Attend all mandatory staff functions: trainings, meetings and all allocated program times
- Submit bi-weekly payroll
- Maintain accurate attendance and other administrative records as required
- Assist participants with toileting as required
- Adhere to all established departmental safety standards and practices
- Perform all other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**:
- Completion or working toward the completion of post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Studies, Education, Recreation and Leisure Services, or equivalent program with a focus/experience working with children and youth
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience working with children in a recreational program setting
- Supervisory and programming experience is an asset
- Standard First Aid and CPR C is required
- HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) is required
- High Five Quest 1 & 2 Certification is preferred
Hourly Rate: $24.76 - $27.82
