**Job Title: Clinical Counsellor/Child Therapist/Art Therapist - Sexual Abuse Intervention Program (SAIP)**

To operate from all PCFSA’s locations, including 324 Goldstream (Colwood), 2840 Peatt (Langford), and 6672 Wadams Way (Sooke).

**Hours**: Temporary 1 year contract (or return of incumbent), Part-Time 21 hours/week

**Anticipated start date**: As soon as possible.

**Wage**: $44.54 - $54.52/hour

Grid level 16 Paraprofessional BCGEU standard wage grid reporting to the Manager of Counselling Programs or delegate.

The initial 3-month period is a probationary period.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Clinical Counsellor/Child Therapist/Art Therapist - Sexual Abuse Intervention Program (SAIP)**

**Grid level 16 Paraprofessional**

The SAIP Counsellor provides clinical counselling to children and adolescents who show indications of having been sexually abused and may also exhibit sexual intrusive behaviours as a result of their victimization.
- Conducts social and family assessments, as well as historical reviews of presenting circumstances.
- Recognizes the signs and indicators of child sexual abuse and/or maltreatment and understands age-appropriate sexual behaviour and stages of normal child development.
- Provides clinical interventions through individual/group counselling, support, education, and/or family meetings/interviews from a strengths-based perspective and from within an evidence-based treatment model.
- Applies a family and community systems perspective and demonstrates competency and humility with regard to diversity and culture.
- Collaborate with other professionals, including physicians, psychiatrists, social workers, and other service providers, to collaborate on plans for clients.
- Maintains client records and provides written assessments, reports or statistical information for referral and funding sources, as appropriate.
- Maintains appropriate caseload numbers, as determined by agency policy and contractual expectations.
- Attends regular case consultation and supervision sessions, to promote practice excellence, and to address and resolve practice issues and challenges.
- Provides occasional support, supervision, and direction to practicum students as appropriate.
- Performs other related duties as required.

**Required Qualifications**:

- Master’s degree in a related human/social service field.
- Specialized training in a variety of expressive child therapies.
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience working with youth living in high conflict families, or with substance use disorders, and/or vulnerable youth who are at high risk for criminal involvement and exploitation.
- First Aid certification and a Class 5 Driver’s License.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and knowledge of evidence-based counselling techniques and counselling modalities.
- Demonstrates therapeutic competence and the ability to provide client-focused, trauma informed and culturally safe care.
- Knowledgeable regarding DSM diagnostic criteria and understands unique vulnerabilities and treatment considerations in children with disabilities.
- Understands and applies relevant legislation, policy, and accreditation standards.
- Demonstrates appropriate boundaries, ethical decision making and maintains a helping role to meet the needs of the people we serve.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

**General Expectations**:
**The SAIP Counsellor will**:

- seek to obtain and maintain professional registration and/or licensing with appropriate professional entities.
- be responsible for their professional proficiency by keeping up to date on relevant clinical and social developments, potentially affecting practice.
- become familiar with and abide by all relevant policies and best practice standards of PCFSA, as well as to contribute to appropriate organizational developmental activities and practices.
- consult regularly with their supervisor regarding clinical, case and program matters.

**Conditions of Employment**:

- This position is 21 hours per week. Schedule to be negotiated with the supervisor, and will include some evening work, according to program needs.
- Requires use of employee’s own vehicle during employment and may be asked to transport clients. Must maintain a valid class 5 driver’s license and adequate insurance coverage of at least ($3,000,000) is required. Mileage will be reimbursed as per the Collective Agreement.

- Requires a recent vulnerable sector criminal record check prior to commencement.
