**POSITION OVERVIEW**:
This position is responsible for general accounting duties related to daily financial operations, including monitoring, analyzing, reconciling, and completing monthly and quarterly reports ensuring accuracy of financial records. This position will assist in creating and maintaining financial forecast models.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**General Duties**:
- Work with the Controller and other finance team members to prepare quarterly working papers and prepare for year-end audit
- Gain an in-depth understanding of the accounting system in SAGE
- Cross-trained and capable in various functions of the finance team including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Payroll.
- Create, revise, and update various costs and analyze detailed and data-heavy spreadsheets
- Become deeply knowledgeable about the financial situation for designated programs including reporting requirements to funders, and assisting program managers with developing their budget including making informed recommendations influenced by data (through researching past data and existing contractual financial commitments)
- Analyze, interpret, and review program finances.
- Lead discussions with program directors on monthly and quarterly financial positions and make recommendations on where focus needs to be for upcoming months as related to the financials for the program.
- Work creatively across programs to look for synergies for spending or funding opportunities.
- Participate in Annual Budget Process, Interim Budget Applications for new funds, as well as Monthly Financial Reviews with Directors and Controller.
- Reconcile annually EHT and WSIB
- Ensure accuracy in execution of vacation accrual process
- Prepare and review external reporting requirements to funders. Facilitate review with directors incorporating any feedback and ensuring accurate reflection of programs and financials. In some cases, communicate with funders related to reporting submissions and questions that come up throughout process.
- Be innovative in utilizing technical skills for improving efficiencies in processes (ie. Automating accounting, budgeting, and analytical processes) monitoring variances; identifying trends; recommending actions to management on a program, department, and organizational level
- Perform financial forecasting, reporting, and operational metrics tracking
- Ensure all tasks are completed with a high degree of accuracy recognizing the impact of errors on the organization.
- Analyze financial data and create financial models for decision support.
- Report on financial performance and prepare for regular leadership reviews
- Perform other accounting duties as assigned the Controller.
- To always perform work safely and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).

**REQUIRED CREDENTIALS**:
- Post-secondary education with focus on accounting, or a business-related discipline
- Completion of, or enrollment in a program leading to a Chartered Professional Accountant certification
- Minimum 5 years of related experience
- Experience required with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Background in not-for-profit accounting an asset
- Experience in the Sage Accpac ERP system an asset
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
