**Job Description**:
**Registered Dietitian**
The Registered dietician will support both the Royal Victoria Regional Healthcare Centers Pediatric Diabetes program and the Simcoe Muskoka Eating Disorder Program. The Royal Victoria Regional Healthcare Centre Pediatric Diabetes Program (RVH PDEP) supports approximately 200 pediatric patients with diabetes up to the age of 18. The team consists of a Paediatric Endocrinologist and Paediatricians, Registered Nurses, Registered Dietitians, and a Social Worker all of whom specialize in diabetes management. The Simcoe Muskoka Regional Eating Disorder Program (SMREDP) supports both paediatric and transitional age youth up to the age of 25. The team consists of Nurse Practitioners, Registered Dietitians, Registered Nurses, and Mental Health Therapists all of whom specialize in Eating Disorders.
The Registered Dietitian (RD) in the SMREDP and PDEP is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care in accordance with the philosophy, policies and standards of care of the Royal Victoria Regional Healthcare Centre, the College of Dietitians of Ontario as well as the Regulated Health Professionals Act (RHPA) and the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
The RD will function as the main resource for paediatric and young adult nutrition and the advocate for patient nutrition on the health care team. This RD will be responsible for the provision of optimal nutritional care to both inpatient and outpatient paediatric and young adult patients based on standards of quality and evidence-based practice. This includes completing comprehensive nutritional assessments, developing care plans with multidisciplinary teams, patients and their families, and monitoring and revising care plans to attain optimum nutritional status. As an interprofessional team member, the RD fosters a culture of safety by minimizing patient harm, promoting the well-being of patient and health care providers, reducing the likelihood of adverse events, and communicating safety concerns. Must be willing to travel to multiple sites.
**Education**:
- Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in a 4 year Dietitians of Canada accredited university nutrition program degree or recognized equivalent required
- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
- Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) Certificate Required
- Active membership with the College of Dietitians of Ontario in good standing required
- Adherence to the Code of Ethics, professional standards and competencies in accordance with the College of Dietitians of Ontario, required
- Membership with Dietitians of Canada preferred
- Post-diploma education in paediatric nutritional assessment and treatment an asset
**Experience**:
- Previous experience in Paediatric Dietetics required
- 2-3 years in an interdisciplinary health care/hospital setting required
- Demonstrates knowledge of eating disorders and their evidence-based treatment is an asset
- Demonstrates knowledge of pediatric diabetes management and education is an asset
- Demonstrates commitment to family-centered care when appropriate
**Competencies**:
- Comfortable with insulin pump therapy and using data collected from a continuous glucose monitor, making insulin adjustments, and providing diabetes-related education to patients, families, and caregivers.
- Ability to learn, demonstrate competency, and perform applicable advanced eating disorders-related nutrition assessment to paediatric and young adult populations.
- Comfortable with providing nutrition counselling and education related to eating disorders to patients, their families/caregivers, and the interdisciplinary team as required.
- Comfortable with working with infants in a Level 2C Advanced NICU, addressing feeding and nutritional concerns with special needs children and children with chronic diseases in both an inpatient and outpatient environments and can communicate well with the caregivers of these children.
- Comfortable with working patients in both an inpatient and outpatient environments and can communicate well with the caregivers and support persons of these children.
- Ability to liaison with all providers for these patients, including community providers, to develop, communicate and put into place a working care plan.
- Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and to function in an independent, self-directed manner, required.
- Flexibility and ability to prioritize and to deal with changes in tasks with short notice, required.
- Ability to negotiate and advocate for patients and the Dietetic profession, required.
