**Summary of Position**:
The Child and Youth Worker is a member of the interdisciplinary team which assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates treatment plans for a given client. Employees with this designation perform front-line work in the program and carry the responsibility for the daily care, treatment, nurturance, supervision, health, and discipline of the clients. The role is extensive and carries with it responsibilities in the counseling, teaching, and training areas, as well as recording and reporting. The Child and Youth Worker must demonstrate high personal competence in the formation and maintenance of caring, therapeutic relationships. As this is an overnight position, you must be available to work from 11:00 pm - 11:00 am (hours may vary based on children’s needs), as well as you must drive as you would be responsible for drives in the morning if required.
**Daily Routine/Responsibilities**
- Development of a trusting and therapeutic relationship with clients;
- Teaching living skills and social skills through role modeling of appropriate behavior and able to assess client deficits and strengths and use systematic plans of instruction, teaching methods, and approaches to transfer information and skill to clients;
- Assist clients with the development and maintenance of problem-solving skills;
- Activity planning that involves clients in groups that meet their recreational, educational, and or therapeutic needs;
- Care of the program environment and clients including meal preparation, grocery shopping, recreational activities, documentation, etc.;
- Monthly documentation related to clients including service planning, reviews, plans, expenses, etc.;
- Counselling skills that utilize problem-solving, de-escalation, goal-setting and preventative interventions with clients in either a 1:1 or group scenario;
- Documentation of daily activities, themes and follow-through of the children and youth;
- Day-to-day service delivery components including, but not limited to, medication administration, client orientation, scheduling of wellness related appointments, transportation (if qualified);
- Remain within the “Scope of Practice” of Child and Youth Care Counselors;
- Providing all clients with a sense of safety, acceptance, and nurturance;
- Mitigation of overall organizational (including facilities, employees and clients) risk as per the Risk Management Plan;
- May be required to provide awake overnight supervision of clients;
- Other duties that management may see fit.
**Required Experience and Qualifications**
- Human services degree or diploma (ie. Social Worker, Child, and Youth Care, etc.);
- Current criminal (with vulnerable sector search) record check (6 months or newer);
- Current intervention record check (6 months or newer);
- Driver’s license and own reliable transportation (driver abstract that is 6 months or newer);
- Standard First Aid & CPR training;
- Medication Administration training;
- Must be available to work between the hours of 11:00 pm - 11:00 am;
- Strong interpersonal skills that bridge the distance with individuals that may have a resistance to relationships, different morals/values, and alternative lifestyle choices;
- Non-judgemental manner;
- Strong personal boundaries;
- Demonstrates good writing and communication skills;
- Experience in working with diverse cultural and religious communities;
- Understanding of Client-Centered Theory, the Circle of Courage model, Trauma-Informed Approach and Milieu Based Therapy philosophies of services/intervention;
- Knowledge and understanding of the Indigenous culture, beliefs, and traditions
**Job Types**: Part-time, Casual
Part-time hours: 24 per week
**Salary**: $19.00-$21.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 12 hour shift
- Every Weekend
- Night shift
- Weekend availability
- Weekends only
Supplemental pay types:
- Bonus pay
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Edmonton, AB: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
**Education**:
- AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)
**Experience**:
- group home: 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- Driving Licence (required)
- Criminal Record Check that is 6 months or newer (preferred)
- Intervention Record Check that is 6 months or newer (required)
- First Aid Certification (required)
