Cycling Education Program Staff

New Hope Community Bikes (NHCB) in Hamilton, ON is a bicycle education charity that offers extensive education opportunities to learn both bike repair skills as well as bicycle safety skills. NHCB is looking for full-time contract staff to support community programming.
**Job Summary: Bicycle Education Program Staff**
The Bicycle Education Program Staff will be instrumental in delivering the Ride Smart Cycle education program to children and youth. Ride Smart is a self-contained travelling cycle education program that teaches basic cycling skills through curriculum-based sessions.
The Bicycle Education Program Staff will meet at New Hope Community Bikes each day to travel to designated Ride Smart locations. They will assist the program lead to set up bikes for each class, complete safety checks on bicycles and then instruct classes of students in basic cycling drills designed to improve cycling skills. Program staff will trade off between providing group instruction and one-on-one support for children who do not yet know how to ride a bike. Program staff will ensure all safety protocols are followed and will assist in completing basic bicycle repairs at each location. Through this work experience the program staff will learn and practice leadership skills, organization, time management, problem solving, and interact with children from Hamilton’s diverse neighbourhoods. Once the school year finishes, the program staff will continue to facilitate cycle skill development through other NHCB initiatives in various neighbourhoods and communities.
This is a position for 35 hours/week, for a 4-week contract. Hours of work will be scheduled to provide adequate staff coverage for shop hours and any additional community programming. Staff will be expected to be able to arrange their own transportation to the bicycle shop.

- Excellent oral communication skills, able to work with others and converse with customers
- Competent cycling abilities
- Interpersonal skills
- Mechanical abilities, able to learn basics of bike repair - these skills may be evaluated for those who are selected for an interview.
- Self directed and motivated
- Ability to lift and move bicycles in and out of storage
- Valid driver’s license an asset
- Recent police vulnerable sector check with clean background is required prior to commencement date
**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 3 weeks
Pay: $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 6 - 8 per week
Schedule:
