**About the team**
Within the Shopify Legal Team, the Compliance Team aims to ensure that Shopify is compliant with regulatory and contractual commitments while remaining agile to encourage growth and innovation. Our team’s mission is to implement and enforce policies and procedures that ensure Shopify complies with applicable laws and regulations so our merchants, partners, and third parties can trust us.
As Shopify continues to expand its financial products and services, we’re also growing our Compliance Management Program. We’re working to strengthen Shopify’s regulatory compliance commitments in areas such as sanctions compliance and anti-money-laundering (AML) to achieve our goal of making commerce better for everyone. As part of this expansion, we’re building a library of training programs, policies, playbooks, and resources to support these new initiatives.

**About you**
Our Compliance team is looking for a curious, organized, and detail-oriented Compliance Operations Specialist to join the team, working within 3 hours of the standard Eastern Time Zone (EST). This is an exciting and challenging role where your time would be divided between compliance management and knowledge management work. You will assist with managing training programs, documentation, and GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) tools to expand and fortify our compliance initiatives. You will also execute and manage operational processes, including conducting sanctions screening, AML and Bank Security Act (BSA) related compliance items, annual risk assessments, and audits, amongst others.

**Responsibilities**:

- Developing playbooks, resources, and policies to support our legal, compliance, sanctions, and AML programs
- Developing and managing training programs to communicate legal best practices across the organization
- Contributing to the building and management of a Legal Policy Library to ensure all policies are reviewed and approved according to requirements
- Conducting sanctions screening while working collaboratively to grow, develop, and streamline the sanctions program according to Shopify’s risk profile
- Assisting other teams within the Legal department to develop training and policies as needed
- Managing operational processes across the team while ensuring effective change management
- Assisting with the management of CRM and GRC tooling used to track and manage workload across the team
- Assisting the team with conducting AML and Bank Security Act (BSA) related compliance items, annual risk assessments, and audits
- Acting as a point of contact for compliance questions across the organization
- Managing relationships with external vendors that support various elements of the Compliance Management Program
- Supporting other projects within the Legal team
- Championing a better, faster, and simpler way of doing things

**Qualifications**:

- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field, and/or commensurate work experience or certifications
- Experience (2-4 years) with executing, building and/or helping to optimize compliance training or knowledge management systems, and/or compliance operations and processes, ideally in a tech or fintech environment
- Executing, building and/or helping to optimize compliance operations and processes, ideally in a tech or fintech environment
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to simplify language for broad audiences
- Excellent time management skills - you thrive when working on multiple projects, and are adept at balancing priorities, stakeholders, and deadlines
- A creative, data-driven approach to identifying and solving problems
- Superb research and analytical skills with an eye for identifying trends and driving solutions

**Bonus experience**:

- Experience with technical writing or instructional learning design
- Data Management skills (SQL, excel, sheets)
- Experience working with CRM/GRC tooling
- Experience working within the financial products and services industry
- Experience working with Learning Management Systems
