**Position Description**:
The Child & Youth Counsellor will provide direct care to children/ youth and their families experiencing acute crisis, mental health issues and/or medically complex eating disorders within an in inpatient hospital environment.

**Here’s What You’ll Get To Do**:

- Support a plan of care in collaboration with the child/family and the multidisciplinary team
- Work within the “Harm Reduction” model of care for patients as individuals and within groups
- Facilitate therapeutic interventions with youth and families
- Work with youth to assist with the progress of treatment goals
- Work with the youth to acknowledge successes and strategies to support their efforts as they transition to the community
- Conduct safety and risk assessments and engage in safety planning; support crisis intervention and emergency situations
- Opportunity to work with patients across the organization

**Here’s What You’ll Need**:

- Certification as a Child and Youth Counsellor
- Child and Youth Counselling Diploma from a community college with a Baccalaureate degree in a related field (preferred)
- Additional education or current enrollment in post graduate education within a related field an asset
- Professional membership with the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Counsellors (OACYC)
- 2 years minimum of experience working in crisis management within an inpatient/hospital environment OR completion of consolidation placement on 7A with recommendations
- Broad experience in mental health services for children and adolescents within inpatient and community, and ambulatory settings an asset
- Experience working with youth coping with mental health issues related to anxiety, depression, psychosis, eating disorders, and/or substance use
- Experience working with patients with autism or developmental delays an asset
- Additional certification/training in DBT, CBT, FBT and asset (certificates of completion required)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking and problem solving

**Employment Type**:
Temporary, Part-time including modified benefits (12 month contract, 0.6 FTE, with oppourtunity to renew)

**Scheduling Requirements**:
**Permanent Night Shifts Only. Approximately 3 shifts a week including weekends. **Shift length is 7.5 hours 23:30-07:30**

**Weekend requirements**:
**Minimum 3 weekendsin a 6 week scheudling cycle.** (Friday + Saturday) or (Saturday + Sunday)** Opportunity to pick up additional shifts.**
