**About this opportunity**

The Direct Support Worker provides client-centered care to support children with complex health care needs with their activities of daily living in their home and/or school environment. The Direct Support Worker will work closely with the family and school staff to effectively support the child. Additionally, by working closely and being supported by a CBI Health Nurse and by receiving specialized training, the Direct Support Worker will support the child with their health care needs to be able to attend school with other children. The hourly wage range for this position is between $22.00 to $26.00 per hour.

**Take an inside look at what you’ll do each day**
- Provide support with activities of daily living to children with a specialized complex health care needs in their home or school setting
- Successfully complete specialized training on defined complex care support activities and receive delegation from a nurse on performing the care activity/ task.
- Contact the CBI Health nurse with any questions or concerns related to delegated activities
- Collaborate with members of the health care team, school team, and the caregiver/ family
- Report any client safety concerns of change of status immediately to the supporting CBI Health nurse
- Communicate effectively with the client, family, school personnel and family
- Complete appropriate documentation as per delegation and training. Maintain accurate and concise documentation
- Work safely at all times. Ensure proper use of routine practises and use of personal protective equipment as required.
- Respect privacy and confidentiality of clients, families and the health care team.

**What you need to be successful**
- All team members are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination upon hire or provide a valid medical exemption
- ** **You have graduated an Occupational Therapist/ Physiotherapist Assistant, Developmental Support Worker, Community Support Worker, Early Childhood Education or Education Assistant program.
- Experience working in a clinical environment preferred
- You have strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with the ability to follow instructions and retain details
- You have strong attention to detail, time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize
- Your focus is to embrace person centred care with demonstrated reliability, punctuality and strong customer service skills
- You are known for your excellent written and verbal communication, listening and observational skills
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR, Level C or greater
- A clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening within the last 12 months
- Proof of a negative TB test within the last 12 months and an up-to-date immunization record
- Ability to work Monday to Friday during school hours in a school environment and home as required
- Ability to travel in the community, a licensed driver with access to a reliable vehicle preferred
